I am long overdue on acquiring some renter's insurance and also covering my collection. From what I have read I will have to have seperate policy's for the 2 as renter's only covers so much.

If anyone can shed some light as to where the best place to start with this is I would appreciate it. I spoke to a friend of the family about covering my collection and they wanted in writing EVERY card in my collection that I wanted to cover, is this how all the policies work?

Sorry if this has been covered before, but I tried searching Insurance and all I found were USPS complaint threads :)

Thanks!

I'm an insurance agent licensed in Missouri and Kansas. The company I work for does not have a policy for collectibles. I have access to the Lloyd's of London policy listed in the link from G $MONEY$. The last time I checked on a quote for my collection the annual premium was something like 3 times what I spend a year on the hobby. I decided to take the chance nothing would get stolen or destroyed.

We have some stuff insured with http://www.collectinsure.com. I am not sure how much you were looking for but when I used their online quote I got the following:

10,000 = $55 a year
20,000 = $99 a year

Seems pretty reasonable.

My advice...get a safe deposit box, and keep your most valuable in there. Why take a chance on if something happens, that your insurance poilicy will even cover you fully...

My homeowners through State Farm covers the first $2500 value of collectibles. I can purchase a rider to cover the rest but the cost was something like 2% of value per year. This is not prohibitive for a small collection but my stuff isn't worth much more than $2500. Slabs protect my cards from water/rugrats and I'll eventually get a fireproof safe to store them.
