Interesting twist on the '01 Fleer Legacy Pujols RC auto

We have all seen the originally unsigned versions of this card being horribly forged and sold, but it appears someone forged one, then submitted it to PSA for grading:

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Maybe that was a bad word to end a post. I assumed someone would offer some input on how an awfully forged card could get by PSA, who also runs an authentication service, or if anyone has seen this type of thing happen before.

How can you be sure that it's forged?

weren't the first 100 copies or so signed? this one is clearly numbered 013/799 so it definately falls into that category

The Fleer Legacy auto in the original post is (IMO) a forgery. I understand that someone's auto is not always the same, especially when signing over and over, but the slant isn't right on suspected auto, and frankly it looks like a 2 year old signed it.

if you look at the legacy auto you can tell it was signed at an angle. draw a line in the angle it was signed and it looks legit to me. it was my understanding that they were signed in order but i'm far from an expert on autos or fleer. i think its a legit copy but who knows.

a lot of things get past PSA.

A few notes.

A.) Mburgin, that's actually false. It was randomly ordered. Only 100 were signed, but not necessarily in order.

B.) That actually may not be fake. All of the legit Legacy AU's look like that to an extent.

To make this very simple....the card you posted about is real....at least it looks real. Below is a link of a REAL Legacy Pujols RC AUTO (BGS Graded one) and a horribly fake Legacy Pujols RC AUTO (PSA Graded One). Pretty easy to spot the difference.

I'm not 100% sure that one's real, but it does look pretty good. PSA and BGS both graded these cards before it was widely known they were counterfeited. BGS will still grade them if JSA authenticated first, but PSA will not grade them at all.

In Jan '08 PSA was notified and they then stopped grading them, I have read.
