I'm starting to get my cards and other items together for this year's Piratefest. I am usually able to come away with a pretty good haul, but last year I had a few problems with smearing or fingerprints in the signature, mostly due to the rushed nature of the event.

I know at a few minor league games I saw some of the autograph seekers had some type of binder or sheet that held the cards in place, which I'm assuming makes it both easier for the player to handle, as well as minimizing the risk of them touching any wet ink. Is anyone familiar with these? If so, could you explain to me how these are done? Are they just heavy stock paper with photo corners matted on them? I really appreciate the help.

You get what's called a memory book and photo corners. Put two cards per page, it should minimize the player smearing the card but not eliminate it.

This is the set up I have been using for at least 15 years.

Get a photo album with the old magnetic pages and a spiral binding like the one in the photo below. The binder in the photo has been used for at least the past 12 years

then you can set your cards up like I have them in the photo below with photo corners. Out of the 1000's of autographs I have gotten this way, only about 5 were smeared. But only put one set of cards per page so no ink will be transferred over to cards on the other side. I just grabbed some cards that were on my desk to show what I am talking about.

Just keep them alphabetically so you can get at players you may need fast.
