I'm starting to get my cards and other items together for this year's Piratefest. I am usually able to come away with a pretty good haul, but last year I had a few problems with smearing or fingerprints in the signature, mostly due to the rushed nature of the event.

I know at a few minor league games I saw some of the autograph seekers had some type of binder or sheet that held the cards in place, which I'm assuming makes it both easier for the player to handle, as well as minimizing the risk of them touching any wet ink. Is anyone familiar with these? If so, could you explain to me how these are made? Are they just heavy stock paper with photo corners matted on them? I really appreciate the help.

easy. get a clipboard. and under the metal clipping that is supposed to hold the sheet of paper in place, put a wash cloth or a folded up piece of fabric. so the card can be put under neath them and are snug. Then you can hand the clipboard to the player and point out which cards to sign.

Scrapbook album or cardboard/heavy paper with photo corners is the way to go.

I'm not sure about the binder thing...but you definitely want to use these:

You could also try getting some good thick paper and punching holes in it with a three hole punch. Put those in a binder. Then use photo corners to put your cards in there. You can get self sticking photo corners from your local craft store or even Walmart in the scrapbook section.

Thanks for the responses. I figured photo corners on a thick stock paper/cardboard was the way to go, but wasn't certain how more experienced 'graphers do it.

And I agree that Lumocolors are fantastic, especially on Chrome or high gloss cards. Put of curiosity, how many cards do you guys usually do per page? I assume I could fit 9 per sheet, similar to the 9 pocket pages.
