Is 1991 Fleer the worst set (all in all) from the "junk wax" period?

Interesting that the Dawson is a corrected error. I had assumed the variations on the bio alignments were a first printing that used a bold version of the typeface, and a second printing that used the regular font.

Based on Dustin's pic, I would assume the first print did use the bolder font that why it is on the ERR wo 76' stats. Then they did the 2nd run where they made the corrections and used the regular font.

Anyone remember the triple play cards from the early 90's? Probably doesn't beat 91 Fleer, but should come close IMO. ImageUploadedByFreedom Card Board1446229739.893525.jpg

That card belongs in the thread from a few days ago about horribly designed singles. Just what you want in a card , a bat and a ball covering the players face.

I just have bought a billion packs of 1990 Fleer and it may be the most boring set ever. 1991 is hideous but 1990 is just bland.

It's astonishing cards were at their MOST popular from 1989 to 1991 because the designs were THE WORST. 1989 and 1990 Bowman are boring as hell, all the Fleer issues are just bad, 1990 and 1991 Donruss look like a Jackson ******* nightmare, Score is blah.. Upper Deck turned out the same damn design for 4 years.... Only Topps has a decent design streak, and it's mostly because they were the kings of design for decades.

Did Fleer EVER have a good design? Maybe 1984-1986 and 1997, but everything else was garbage.

'87 Fleer was and is gorgeous. Greatest set ever!

That set YEAR AFTER YEAR turned out a new hot rookie card.

Clark, Sierra, Mitchell, Larkin, Seitzer, Bo, Elster, Magadan, Bonds, Bonilla etc.

They just kept coming.

Imagine if that set had McGwire, Maddux and Greenwell.

At least it has the provisions and all-star inserts. I'd rather bust 1991 Fleer than something like 1988 Donruss or 1992 Triple Play at least.

1988 Donruss at least has Tom Glavine, Roberto Alomar and Mark Grace RCs. No way id bust 91 fleer over it.

1991 and 1992 Leaf....1990 was such a hit and they followed that with two turds

1993 Pinnacle, such a plain and boring set

1994 Score, the company took one turd and reprinted it minus the Pinnacle name.

1991 and 1992 Leaf hurt because no RCs that mattered in those sets IMO. At least the "new" leaf is getting use from them;)

1993 Pinnacle at least had TPs and RTPs.

And I love 1994 Score inserts !

1991 leaf was such a boring and drab product.

BUT it has one thing going for it, the Gold Leaf Bonus rookies.

Granted, the Mussina and Bagwell don't carry value despite being probably their least produced rookie cards.

But again, the thing which potentially makes opening boxes worthwhile is finding ANY Gold Leaf Bonus rookies with a REGULAR BASE CARD NUMBER on the reverse instead of typical "BC" prefix.

Super duper rare, so rare in fact that I can't even find a picture of one on Google.

Anyone have a scan?

Here is a modification of a 1991 Fleer ... note the "Boo" Jackson because of Halloween.
