I expected a station devoted to baseball to give me nightly IN DEPTH coverage. But it is just like watching SportsCenter with slightly more baseball banter in between the same kind of game recaps that we've been seeing for twenty years.

I disagree. I appreciate having ALL baseball. They do provide good analysis. What kind of in depth coverage were you hoping for? More player profiles or something? I'm not sure I understand. I really like when they cut away to at-bats during their MLB Tonight coverage. It seems like almost half of the time something interesting happens in the game right at that point (key hit/nasty strikeout/great play). Outside of watching an entire game unfold, having those key moments provided is the next best thing (in my opinion).

In was going to say the same exact thing! I love how they show key plays and at bats!

What is more in-depth on MLB Network than on ESPN?

I love that it is all baseball, but it is just like watching ESPN without other sports. They even have the same mini-segments like Plays of the Day. It isn't in-depth to show homeruns and strikeouts. I expected better breakdowns than showing highlights EXACTLY like ESPN has done it for twenty years.

I love every other aspect of MLB Network but their daily breakdown show is a disappointment to me.

I Love the MLB Network- They have analysts that dont have a problem saying so and so SUCKED tonight. I love Mitch Williams telling it like it is. It is very different from the suck-ups at ESPN who follow whatever stories everyone else has talked about for days

I totally agree, you'll see games that are 9 to 6, and they'll only show 2 solo homeruns and 8 great strikeouts.

I can't get enough of the channel when I'm back home, but I'd rather see how the offense scored 9 runs as apposed to just showing the 2 runs of Homeruns.

Game coverage is the same as ESPN, but they go far and beyong when it comes to interviews and chit chat about everything baseball. If they weren't so busy doing that maybe they'd go more in depth into the actaul games.

I always thought espn would be the perfect channel if I didn't have to sit through all the sports I don't like. Soooo......ACES!

I'll give them a full season to work out the bugs. I think it's very good, with the potential to be great. I don't really care for Dan Plesac, though.

When you say Lincecum highlights... do you prefer a close up just before or just after he gives up a 350 ft double off the wall???

Come on rock! dude has not been good this year yet. He needs to make highlights to get highlights...kidding he was nuts last game

I actually find that they cut in to games during major situations, but then leave the game before the situation is resolved. Oftentimes they'll leave before something more interesting is coming up. For example, say the Dodgers have 1st and 3rd with 1 out in the 9th inning, down a run with Orlando Hudson up. They'll stick with the game to see Hudson walk, but then with Manny coming up they leave the game and say they can't stick with the game too long. They'll then go to commercial and say they'll let us know what happened. I'm not joking - this has happened at least ten times already. It's a real buzzkill.

I think this might be a network rights issue - I know when you watch NFL games, if there's a game running late into the post-game show, the network can't show it live. They have to show "highlights" on a tape delay. So MLB might only get a certain amount of time (say, 59 seconds) before they have to cut away.

This would be something I would expect to be hashed out with individual teams as each TV contract comes up for renewal - these regulations were most likely written before the MLB Network was in play. It's restrictions like these that stop Baseball Tonight from cutting in live more often. They get special dispensation for big events (no hitters, milestone ABs, etc), but they can't show a reliever getting out of a jam live in the 7th inning.

Thanks for all of the opinions. It is interesting to see what is important to each of us.

I still think the network is amazing. I'm just disappointed by their recap show *shrugs*

Can't agree more. Mlb Network is great. I also like watching past season where they discuss the whole season on how each team make the post season.

I still haven't seen a real answer as to how MLB Network's recaps are any different from ESPNs recaps. How do they show any more depth?
