There have been plenty of times that I look at the cases that pop up on eBay or the few that Blowout have, and I just say to myself: Man, it would be fun to go back there. That was, hands-down, the most profitable case I've ever opened. 1 case of Jumbos, on the strength of a Strasburg auto, and all his chromes as base that came from it, allowed me to break even on it. It was awesome. The rest was gravey.

Now, you'd have to hit a Strasburg Orange, or some other insane prospect auto to even come close to getting a small portion of your purchase price back ($1700+?), but how tempted has anyone ever been?

I have a few cases Id like to rip like that.

2010 Bowman w/Chrome
2005 Draft

Cases I remember having fun ripping... but at the price point now its not really a good idea.... but If I had a ton of money id rip a case of 2005 draft.

I recently did a 2005 draft case.... got shutout. No kershaws.. No Longorias.... Only cards of value I pulled were an Orange Masterson first Chrome and a Jay Bruce Signs of the Future...

That's because Kershaw and Longoria were not in 2005. They were in 2006, although I am sure you probably knew that, and it was just a typo.

It's sort of funny how cheap 2005 Draft is in comparison to some of the recent stuff that doesn't have the real massive talent like 2005 BDPP does.

2 Jumbo Cases at 1000 each 2 Strasburg autos sold at 700 each. That was an awesome break, even with buying late and selling early.

I would like to have been able to open some 2001. Bowman chrome back when the Pujols redemption was still valid.

I remember being 13 years old and going to a card shop in Coeur D' Alne Idaho in early 2002 and seeing the recent hit list the shop owner had and seeing TWO! Michael Vick SP authentic rpas (anybody else remember when these were $1000+ cards?) a Pujols BC redemption, and an Ichiro ultimate and SPX. Where is that DeLorean when you need one?

2010 Bowman was great for me, I was able to pick up jumbos at Newbury Comics for $11.99 on release. A few weeks later, the price went up to $14.99; at this point, the LCS had them for $25 a jumbo (and they were selling at that price). Pulled a Strasburgh Orange /500, Starlin Castro Chrome Auto Refractor, and a Jonathan Waltenbury plate out of the same jumbo...then proceeded to get scammed out of the Stras and Castro at a show.

I just picked up a box of 2010 Chrome for $40, looking for some Will Middlebrooks. No luck, but if he stays hot there might be some added interest in those boxes.

I'd love to go back to the mid 90s and re-open the stuff that goes for big money now. The Crusades, Mirrors, Finest Embossed Die-Cuts, etc. That was the height of my buying and my friends and I opened $$$$$$ of that stuff! All since gone, mostly to card shows before ebay.

On a more recent note, I wasn't collecting in 05, so I'd like to open some 05 Topps Chrome looking for Zimmerman and Neil Walker rookies!
