Is it just me or do Ebay's new standards make no sense?

Taking the ratings of the last 12 months make no sense to me. For every 1 and 2 star rating given in a category, a "strike" is given. If you exceed 3 strikes, it falls below their performance standards and a selling limit can be placed on my account. I used to ship all cards Priority Mail ($4.75) due to the free delivery confirmation and quick speed, but I have gotten 12 ratings of 1 or 2 in shipping costs in the last 12 months. It's not like I charged 4.75 for first class mail or ripped people off with excessive shipping, I charged the exact price it cost to ship.

I don't know what these limits are going to be, but it's just frustrating that these standards are held especially since no explanation is given for the star ratings by Ebay. People just click whichever they want.

Does anyone know exactly what Ebay is planning the selling limits to be? Or are we just going to be surprised?

I am guessing people are just looking at what they are paying for your shipping and they are not looking at what they are getting for that price. They see how much shipping is and then they base thier ratings off that.

The buyer shouldn't be able to leave feedback for shipping prices. They're damn clueless.

If someone pays 5 dollars to ship the item, how can you reasonably give them anything but a five star rating for shipping prices?

eBay knows this, and it's just another tool to help make them money. Bastards.

*shipping price* should be worth about a 10th of shipping time, item condition, item as described, etc.

People don't know how to click buttons and most people think a 4/5 is good. eBay should keep track of people's rankings, and make some kinda matrix out of it.

If someone gives all 3's -- that becomes a five.

I had someone charge $4 for shipping, it ended up being in a PWE. It also took a week to arrive. It came from southern Minnesota, which should be two days max (since I'm in northern Minnesota). That seller got 1 star from me.

Buyers don't care how much it cost you to ship the item, sadly. They only care how much they pay. I keep my shipping costs as low as I can ($2.50 for the first ungraded card, capped at $5.00 no matter how many cards you buy), use only new materials (bubble mailers, sleeves, top loaders, and team set bags, etc.), and pack the card well enough to stop a bullet (cardboard folder for the bagged top loader, packing peanuts, etc.). Even with all of that, I still will occasionally get less than 4 or 5 stars for my S&H charge. I'd rather keep the fair S&H rate than offer free shipping and just jack up the sale price of the item accordingly, since the fair S&H price is actually cheaper for multi-item buyers.

Just accept the fact that you can't win on eBay, even if you play the game right.

I have one instance that really stands out to me on a card I sold. Priority mail in one of their small flat rate boxes. Card was placed in a new penny sleeve/top loader/team bag and placed in a bubble mailer. That bubble mailer was placed in the priority mail box with bubble wrap filling the spaces. DC and insurance. The card got there two days after he paid and left 4's. I know a 4 is good but seriously? I think the only way he'd give a 5 is if I flew there that night and handed it to him.

And even then he'd probably expect me to have a pizza in hand for him as well.

In other news,

I just received a card today that was mailed on February the 15th!

The card was only maybe 7 bucks, so i wasn't freaking out, but I'd emailed the guy a couple weeks ago around the deadline, asking about the card. He said it wasn't returned, and that he'd mailed it out the day after I paid.

Either way, it's the worst Address that I've ever seen. I have no clue how it made it to me, even after 2 months.

The Postal Code (ZIP) is on the second line. There's no legible City or Province on it.. Stuff's crossed out

It's just brutal.

I should've filed an item not received claim. ha.

Ugh. I seriously question how old about 1/2 the sellers on eBay are because of this.

I should've filed an item not received claim. ha.

Until someone....ANYONE.....comes out with TRUE competition for feebay, they will never make it easier for sellers. They will continue doing stupid things which only make sense to them and raise FV fees as they like.

With no TRUE comp, theres no reason to make something better if theres really no other options. You know, like Baseball cards now.

I offered free shipping on nearly every item and I still don't have a perfect score for shipping price. If you offer free shipping it should be an automatic 5 and the buyer shouldn't have the ability to rate you on shipping price.

So you agree to ship it for free but take 2 weeks before you send it out and you ship it in a PWE?
Theres a reason why you still get a grade for shipping. I dont agree with peoples' expectations overall though.

I said shipping price. Not shipping time. They are separate categories.

People will lump it all together. Thats my point. People dont pay attention.

Which is why if you offer free shipping eBay automatically give you a 5 on shipping price only. The rest of the ratings are up to the buyer. Maybe I'm just overtired and not thinking clearly, but that seems pretty simple to me...

I support this idea. It's easy enough for them to do and completely fair.
