Just know that you can't have them ALL. Just move on and find that next awesome card for your collection.

+1
It happens to me quite a bit, and while I may be mad for a day or two, there is really nothing you can do besides trying to get in contact with the buyer or move on.

The guy knew I was a player collector of the card. He told me on the phone he was into comic books, not baseball cards.

It's definitely a draw back that cannot be fixed...I would say most hobbyists rather sell a card to someone who shows extremely high interest with a great price, instead of jumping the gun for a quick sale.

How do you know the other buyer wasn't a player collector.

One of the reasons I don't player collect. I know this would happen to me. I'd want it all and feel sick if I lost a key piece.

Instead I try to keep my collecting simple: on card autos, cool sketches, NY Giants, random oddball stuff...etc This way I don't have to worry about THE BIG ONE getting away.

I am going to play devil's advocate here and say that as a hobby intune seller (like myself) I am more concerned with making the sale for the price I want without the headache. When you say you went back and forth with him all day, as a seller I would personally be very frustrated and would be overjoyed to find someone who was a motivated buyer, willing to pay a premium, and willing to just get the deal done without all the wrangling. As buyers we have to keep in mind what we look for as sellers. Bad break. Perhaps when you see a must have item in the future it will be easier to just start the bargaining with, "what will it take to get this deal done now?" It will save heartache and headache.

I agree....
If you would have paid more , and you REALLY wanted the card, you should have offered the additional $25 in the first place.
Like teh above poster said, sometimes its about the ease of the sale...
On a side note if someone makes a better offer, and I am happy with it, I sell it.
I never (and hate) to contact another buyer and say "I was offered more, do you want to make another offer" as it looks like your just trying to shill the buyer...

You can be mad but you will get over it. It's just a card and I am sure there are others that you want badly too. As a seller, if I knew two people were battling over it I would never just accept an offer. I would go back and forth all day to get as much as I could.

Its ok to be ticked, shows your passion. It helps to take one of those once in awhile to remember you won't have them all. It also provides motivation to keep searching actively and often to scoop up the next great card before anyone else sees it! Good luck!
