Is it suspicious when items get relisted right away?

I tend to clean out my watch list every couple days and every now and then I notice that an item has been relisted within 24-48 hours, even though it ended at auction with a seemingly legitimate high bidder. Now I realize that some sellers might have multiple copies of the card and are just relisting to sell another one but it seems a little fishy to me when the card is serial #'d or extremely rare. Anyone else have any thoughts or experiences with this?

time and time again?

that does seem unusual

what screams scam to me is receiving "second chance offers"

It's not necessarily cards that are getting relisted repeatedly but I just can't figure out any other reason besides some shady bidding practices that would account for an item being relisted within 24 hours of ending at auction with a NARU'd winning bidder or 0 feedback bidder.

One of his auctions is actually one of the examples I'm referring to. I was watching a Mike Stanton red refractor of his last month. The card ended at like 3 or 4 in the morning with a high bid of $4000+ and was relisted less than 12 hours later.

The only legit reason i can think of is the high bidder already told the seller that he can't pay.

i notice this quite a bit. usually the auction ends a bit higher than normal and then magically within moments it's re-listed as a bin. seems like a seller trying to inflate the going rate before selling the item.

Yes and it happens to me all the time. Shilling is far too easy on ebay.

I'd stay away from him. He either had 8 Friedrich Orange Ref or he liked to relist it after it sold...a lot...

Depends on the seller. Some sellers (like me) often have multiple copies, so will list right after an auction ends. I find that most bidders don’t take ‘2nd chance offers’ (they think there’s shilling), especially if a card just ended, so I find listing the 2nd (or 10th) copy of the card right after the 1st auction ended draws in those ‘2nd chance offer shy’ bidders as well as bidders who email (often) saying ‘oops, had it on my watch list; forgot to bid’. Now granted I DON’T ‘relist’ asap umpteen times…if someone does, I tend to be suspicious, especially if it’s say a red ref….though maybe (as has happened to me), the buyer won it + said ‘oops, sorry can’t pay’

Agreed, especially when it comes to serial #'d cards. No other legit reason why the same serial #'d card would pop back up on eBay the next day / same night .

When Mauer chrome autos were on fire last year I sold a handful of them in consecutive weeks but I didn't use the Relist utility. I figured since the previous card sold, I wouldn't use Relist because I didn't want it to appear I was selling the same exact card.

All the time? I've had some buyers not pay and don't even communicate either. I send a 2nd chance offer after I've gone through the process of NPB with the first joker. And as per the norm, I never hear anything back in regards to the 2nd chance offer either.

Here is another example.

This particular seller has done this with many cards over the last few months. Sells this card on August 29. Buyer has 100% activity with the seller, despite having over 2700 feedback.

http://cgi.ebay.com/2001-Albert-Puj...0533586600?pt=US_Baseball&hash=item27b49806a8

Then he lists this BIN.

http://cgi.ebay.com/2001-Albert-Puj...0534067653?pt=US_Baseball&hash=item27b49f5dc5

After that doesn't sell he decides to relist at auction. Guess who's the high bidder again?

It is unfortunate that a few bad apples have created this feeling.
I used to use 2nd Chance Offers all the time when I had multiples of items.
For example, if I had like 3 2010 Topps Yankee Team Sets then I would list
once then offer my other 2 using the 2nd chance feature. However, I got
accused of shilling so many times that I no longer do this.
I would also use the 2nd chance offer when not getting paid by the occasional no good winning bidder. I guess my point is that not every 2nd chance offer signals shilling as
there are still some good, honest ebay sellers out there.
