Heck when I was a kid in the 1970s I got thousands of 1950s-60s Era cards by the shoeboxes full, because my Dad worked as a manager at a Safeway. He would ask everyone he met, telling them his son collected cards. I must have got close to 10-15 boxes full, if not more.

Most everyone now days knows roughy what their collectibles are worth, its not like in years gone by when there still was collections just sitting there thought as "worthless", but you never know.

Although I shake my head at your post, I'd chalk this up as a learning experience; he is some advice:
I would go over and offer to mow his yard for him. For free. Ask if there is anything he would like help with. For free. Wear a baseball jersey. If he strikes up a conversation, ask if he ever saw Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig or Ted Williams play. Let nature take its course.

Thats got to be some of the worst advice I've ever seen. Wow. These forums are ridiculous sometimes.

Thanks for your opinion; I can see where my poor writing skills could cause my meaning to be misconstrued, but I assure you I was not suggesting that he ingratiate himself to set up a scam. As I'm likely far older than you are I can actually remember when people did help out others. I was asked to mow a yard for a summer too, and ended up with a Lionel Train set (instead of cash) Had I kept the train set, I would have done quite well.

This is what you do:
Hit a baseball into his backyard. Then go to his door and ask for your ball back. When he goes to get the ball, he sees that his dog Hercules has chewed it up. He will feel bad and invite you into his house where you notice a gold mine of vintage baseball stuff. Your neighbor then tells you about the times he played with Ruth, Gehrig, etc. You make a deal with him that you will come by more often to talk baseball and he gives you his Babe Ruth signed baseball. To top it off, you make a movie about your experience and make millions.
