while i am a bit biased...it is still too early too close the door on wood. he will only be 24 in march and has never got consistant ab's in the bigs. granted, his 2005 campaign was a monster but i never felt he would put up that type of production or even close to it in the bigs. for wood, .270 25 85 is possible.

I don't know what either option means stats wise so I will just give this MLB stat line...

.270 25/30 100 with a lot of K's

Brandon Wood: .321, 43 HR's, 115 RBI, 128 strikeouts
Mike Stantoon: .293, 39 HR's, 97 RBI, 153 strikeouts

So, maybe a poor man's Brandon Wood?

Before I opened this I knew it was going to be Wood. Although I don't think Stanton will turn in to Wood, I don't think he will be the next big thing. I don't have a lot to back that up though.

Supposedly he has incredible bat speed which I do love.

Way too early to compare him to anyone, or to predict his future.

As a hitter, I like Stanton better. At 18 he put up a .293/.381/.611 line in Low-A, with road splits showing his numbers weren't propped up by his home park. At 18, Wood put up lines of .308/.349/.462 and .278/.348/.475 in the AZL and Pioneer League, two offense friendly leagues. Stanton K'd more and BB'd more, did so against much more advanced competition. I also believe Wood had more baseball experience than Stanton, because Stanton was a football standout as well, so I believe the K's will come down. In Wood's breakthrough year in the Cal League, he posted a .383 OBP with a .321 AVG, Stanton last year posted a nearly identical .381 OBP despite a -28 difference in AVG, so I think his K's are largely due to the relative inexperience. You can't make the argument that Stanton BB'd more because pitchers were simply pitching around him, as Wood put together a historical season, thus would have been pitched around quite a bit. Stanton may never post a sub-100 K season as a pro, but he'll improve, the power will remain and he should move pretty quickly.

I think the guy has started out excellent & will be a solid ball player through the early levels of the minor's, after that I'm not buying the "hype"...

I still like Brandon Wood, so I cannot answer the poll accurately.

I don't think Stanton is going to be another Dave Winfield.

For those of you who bought his cards, for the Marlins, and for the fun of watching him play, I hope so, but I don't think so.

We will learn a lot more this season.

Had his K rate been lower, I would be more excited.

Scouts love the guy, but I am more of a stats junky than a tool box.

Pardon the jargon.

You want the next big thing, then look no further than

I like him. Not enough to drop 1000 bucks on his stuff, but certainly enough to pull an Xfractor, trade for a refractor, and hold them until the price goes up ;)
