I would think if it was so RARE you could at least spring
for a PSA or Beckett grading. However with the way its posted its hard to say.

He says the card is at PSA right now getting authenticated and regraded. Hes not really trying to sell the card in this "auction" he is more showing it off.

Im sure he'll put up the PSA pics if it crosses

Do any Griffey collectors know how rare that card really is?

The seller is acting like it's the only one out there that he knows of..and he says PSA confirmed it is going to be graded as authentic.

I think what makes this card so rare is the fact that it is a Pro Graded 9, the first Pro Graded card I've ever seen that wasn't a 10. That alone makes it a steal at $100k.

Its possible it could be very rare. Ive only seen the platinum and blue version. Plus the Spirit logo is missing from the bottom left corner. These cards can also be easily reprinted so it could be fake.

This makes me wish the "Thank Post" button didn't disappear into thin air

The white letter variation is extremely rare. This is the 2nd or 3rd one I have seen on ebay since 1998. I remember reading an article about it in one of the card magazines several years ago. I would estimate that there is no more than 25 made. Be careful, there are counterfeits of the 1988 Best Platinum cards and it wouldn't surprise me if they did it for the white letter variation as well since it is in a PRO Grading holder.

thanks for the reply. Now I know that the card does exist. Do you know if it was an error or planned?

The fact that this card can be so easily reprinted and the guy said he had to be on the phone with PSA all morning means he's got some doubt about it. If this is the first one graded by PSA they could have easily made an error since those brainiacs authenticate some terrible autographs..

Contacted the seller and he received the card back from PSA. It is authentic, but trimmed, according to them.

So with that authentication, what's the range it is worth?
