It could be a sketch from a picture where he is in mid swing and he just looks different. If it's a 1 of 1 wouldn't it be shown somewhere on the front or back of the card. Ask him to send you a scan of the back.

After the first couple of years of his career Bagwell for the most part had some facial hair.I have a hard time believing someone would decide to draw him as a lot of folks wouldn't remember him.I don't think the seller is trying to pull something but I think the name for the sketch is not Bags.

Another possibility is that it's an after market sketch by the artist.

I remember reading a post on these boards that Topps sometimes gives artists extra blank cards with the topps logo/format on them to do whatever they want with them.

I'm not too big on sketch cards info, but to me - If I want a sketch card, I'm buying it as art, not if it's part of a released product.

It is, that is why I edited my post. Sketch cards were in a few different releases in 08 and 09. I'm not sure about the 08 ones, but I know the 09 Topps Series One's aren't on Beckett's checklist. They don't say which player they are of, so it is up to the buyer and/or seller to figure it out.

But I am pretty sure they isn't a picture of Bagwell. To me it looks like Alou, but he hasn't played for the Astros recently.

Oh boy...that's one hell of a dumb idea.In the 2008 checklist I could find there is no Bagwell so I am assuming the seller has the wrong year listed and I also agree with you that this is in fact not Bags.

I may be to far down in the thread to give any advice, but if you read my comment here it is:

It looks legit to me, but that looks like Miguel Tejada or Moises Alou

Yeah...I think it looks like Miggy so I am just going to watch and not bid.It makes me wonder though how many folks are blindly bidding just because they think its Bagwell.

It's gotta be Tejada

I started a thread for this very purpose:
Guess that sketch.

It's obviously Bagwell, most likely Tejada, but one tip is that Bagwell, being retired, I don't think would be in base Topps. Unless I'm confused, they have to license retired guys individually, but haven't gone for the recent guys for a base set.

I was thinking the same think before I read the thread but that is the icing on the cake right there.

I won this auction, and did some research last night. I too concluded that it's not Bagwell. I emailed the seller, but obviously, I am not a Tejada collector. What would you suggest that I do? I put my high bid in, under the pretense that this was indeed Bagwell.

BTW - Predatorkj, what's the middle card under your signature? Is that a Bagwell sketch card?

i hate bursting bubbles - but this artist uses a light box to "trace or transfer" images from photos - therefore, he found a headshot photo on the internet & used it to make this card - yes, TEJADA ... if you do enough google searching, i'm sure you can find the exact photo he used.
