Always hated 1970 Topps. Gray, gray and more gray. 1971 is no prize either, just substitute black for gray. 1972 was a color explosion after those two years!
For modern, I don't know why, but I cringe every time I see 2000 Fleer Impact singles. I hated them upon release. Guess in retrospect, not the worst, but it's my personal loathed set. Definitely had no "impact" on the hobby - one year release.
1991 Topps was just a confusing set to me at the time. Upper Deck had been printing on a better paper stock for 3 years and Topps was using some great action shots with the 91 set. In 1992 Topps, you get both.
When comes to giving a player like Bobby Thigpen 4 cards ( that's usually his limit ) I go to 1987 Topps, 1992 Topps, 1989 Topps, and 1988 Topps.
