It Appears The "Authentic Game Used Pieces by XXXX Player" are ALL used up.....

I've been really looking hard at the backs of GU cards....


I've noticed a lot of stuff Pre-2009 the backs state....that the pieces embedded in the card was certified to have been used by that specific player on the card especially the Old Timers i.e. Ruth, Gehrig, Cobb, etc...


The more current cards say "embedded in this premium card are pieces of authentic game used Memorabilia."


So if that's the case: You could be getting a Ted Williams game used card that had pieces used by Dustin Pedroia..... according to the legal wording on the card itself.....




Please chime in on this or am I totally wrong in this?

Game Used Stadium Bench making people think "bat" is the number one offender. (I'm looking at you 2009 T-206 Babe Ruth but green paint still on it)

I've thought about this too. I don't trust any game used cards these days contain a piece of a game used jersey used by the player pictured.
I would never spend more than a few bucks for a "game used" jersey card of a player I don't collect, especially of legendary players.

There's no proof that anything is authentic, and Topps is legally covered if someone were to somehow prove that their Jeter jersey doesn't contain a swatch worn by Jeter.
Some collectors spend way too much money and put too much faith into game used cards.

I have a feeling there will be an investigation, scandal or revelation from a former Topps or Upper Deck executive that will destroy the value of game used cards in the very near future.
It's an industry and value system based entirely on collectors believing that a piece of cloth was worn by a player, sometimes 100 years ago.
