the Yanks got Yanked? They paid 153 million and only seven years for someone who will be 37 at the end of the deal. How is that getting yanked? Thats market value but maybe a tad higher. I think you are underestimating the combo of Gardner and Ells at the top of that lineup. 120 steals easy I think.

Plus, Ellsbury's injuries were freak accidents. Broken ribs and a non throwing arm/shoulder injury I believe. Its not like he had surgery on his knees, legs, or throwing arm.

This was a market level deal and he even accepted LESS to go to a winning ball club.

The sox do have an impressive farm system but to say that this deal is bad is ignorant.

LOL. I've followed Ells since well before day 1 with the Sox. Therefore, maxe0213, I know what the Yanks are getting and what to expect from him.

Ells and Gardner collisions could easily happen the first week of ST. Ells is a guy who unfortunately attracts serious "fluke" injuries. Yeah, he's fast as a gazelle, but I can't think of 153 million reasons why he's better than JBJ.

With that money the Yanks gave Ells, the Sox will improve their team in multiple, better ways.

Ells Gardner collision could easily happen the first week of ST? So could JBJ and Victorino. Papi COULD have a season ending injury in ST. To base this on COULD happen things is stupid. Any two outfielders COULD collide in the first week of ST.

Nobody is saying the Sox got "worse." But you CAN NOT deny that the Yanks got better in this deal.

I've seen ellsbury play as well. I know what to expect as well.

We are talking about 300-310 20 hrs 60 rbis and 50+ steals with quality defense when healthy.

7 years for 153 compared to what Cano got at 10 years 240? This is a bargain. Ells will only be 37 when this is over. Not ancient. Cano will be 41 in that deal. Beltran is what 37 and going to get a 3 year deal? IMO Ells is a much better deal than any of those contracts.

I understand the Red Sox have JBJ but to say that JBJ will put up numbers and be able to replace ellsbury is just not true. Sure he may excel but I'll take the proven talent over the minor leaguer everyday.

His injuries are not chronic issues and are not things that typically reoccur.

Why do you believe that Ellsbury will jump from 9 homeruns last year, to 20 this year? I personally see his increasing his power as well, but mainly because of the fact that he is playing at a little league field now.

Because all those line drives to the warning track at Fenway make it out of the ballpark at Yankee Stadium. I see 20 HRs being the peak but I see no reason why he wouldn't hit at least 15/year.

On a side note, what will John Sterling's HR call be for Ellsbury?

I think its pretty obvious to everyone that his power will increase because he's in that ballpark as a lefty.

I think the SP rests on Kuroda. If he accepts the offer they have Kuroda, Sabathia, Nova, Pineda, Phelps. If Tanaka is posted then Tanaka is 4 and Pineda and Phelps battle for 5.

If Kuroda declines and Tanaka isn't posted then I think the Yanks could make a trade with Gardner for a pitcher or go after try to have a rotation of Sabathia/Nova/Pineda/Phelps/One more.

Re-sign Kuroda? Check!

True, the injuries themselves are not chronic, but what is chronic is his ability to get hurt.

This makes no sense. He's had two "freak" or "weird" injuries. Not throwing shoulder issues. Not knee surgery or anything like that. I'm not worried about his health at all.
He hit 32 in 2011, I don't see why 20 would be his max.
Yeah I think he could hit 25 on average in that park. Although I'd be happy with 20.
