Great deal for the Tiggers, but didn't both they and the Red Sox both need relievers/closers?

looks like all 3 teams got a good player they needed, Peavy front line starter to Boston, Iglesias to Det to probably replace Peralta who is facing suspension, & Chicago gets Garcia who I think is going to be very good, he showed signs of it last year down the stretch

Seems like a fleece from the Redsox perspective, especially considering the depth the Sox have on the left side (WMB, XB, Cecchini and like 8 other defense first SS's). A lot of it has to be the ability to eat the $20M on his deal without much worry

Pumped personally

Who do you think is the winner here? My vote is for the Tigers.

Can't complain at all as a Red Sox fan. I can actually see them making a nice run now with this super strong rotation.

Ugh, why did they feel the need to trade one of the best gloves that ever came through their system?? And this bumps Workman out of the rotation who pitched great his last few starts.

They actually didn't give up as much as I would have expected, but I was a big fan of Iglesias and for a team who usually ranks 8th or worse in team defense I believe he needed to stay in Boston to give the left side of their infield a boost. Seriously, plus defense at 3rd and plus plus defense at SS...I'm gonna miss those insanely quick hands of his.

Absolutely could not agree more. I really like Iglesias and think he will have a great career. I understand the depth Boston has on the left side, but WMB is far from a sure thing and Xander could easily move to another position as he may still out grow SS. Checcini and Marrerro (or however you spell their names) look promising, but are years away. I feel like we just said goodbye to a 5+ time GG winner. I am not a fan of the deal for Boston.

You've got to give to get.

Realistically, Peavy could do more for Boston in half a season than Iglesias could in his whole career.

Boston most likely isn't losing anything here with their current minor league talent ready to step in should Drew falter or move on (at the end of the season).

Very interesting trade. My perspective as a Tigers fan is that Boston received the biggest short term boost while the White Sox received the player with the greatest potential. The Tigers did well to secure their future SS as Peralta is a free agent and facing suspension but it seems to me they had to pay a decent price to CYA.

I realize we have got to give to get, but realistically Peavy was not needed with the way Workman has handled himself in the rotation his last few starts. Peavy is a great pitcher but with his injury history I don't think he can be relied on heavily to stay healthy. The real problem begins when Buchholz will be back in a month or so...who gets bumped out of the rotation? Coming into camp next year with Lackey, Lester, Buchholz, Doubront, and Dempster all coming back...who gets the boot then? If Dempster moves into the bullpen as a long reliever I will not mind this deal because that is something they have lacked since Masterson (and Aceves).

Yeah I was surprised by this move because now we have Holt and Snyder in Boston as our 3B options. Now, I like both of those players but I see Holt as more of a utility infielder and Snyder as a solid backup. Middlebrooks I really like and hope he can figure things out (I believe he will, just not this year) but who knows if he will be able to help the team out during the stretch. Not to mention he is an average fielder with a strong arm. Boegarts...well he has little experience at 3B and still probably needs a bit more seasoning in AAA...I think we will see him called up maybe late August just to see what he is capable of. Everyone else is still a year away from being called up so as deep as we might be for the future, short term most definitely not. Here is a hypothetical....what happens if JD er...Stephen Drew gets injured? Then what??! I cringe to think about that (and honestly I would not mind that happening as Drew has been anemic at the plate all year)...

I am one of many who saw a future IF consisting of 3B: Boegarts SS: Iglesias 2B: Pedroia 1B: Middlebrooks....now that is no longer, but just imagine how great that would have been! Boston has never prioritized defense, but man...I've never been so excited to watch a player field the ball. So smooth with his footwork and his catch and throw is quicker than anyone I've seen.

I may sound like a bitter Sox fan, but Boston always trades away my favorite players (Masterson for starters...that one still hurts to this day) and it usually hurts them in the long run. I will reiterate: I am glad they did not trade away any of their young pitchers but I don't think they will see another defensive player of that caliber go through their system for a long, long time.

Boston has Morales coming back soon and a ton of options in AAA. Their worry is with Uehara breaking down, but I don't see that happening.
