Holy crap its about time. Thank god his fat ass cant get out of town fast enough for me

He's probably headed to Vegas right now with about $20 million of Crazy Al's dollars.

And IMO, Leaf was still the bigger bust...

I think Ryan Leaf & Tim Couch might have something to say about that.

I think Russell is the biggest bust of all time (so far).

Tim Couch was injured and was basically playing for an expansion team when he got drafted in '99, so it's not fair to call him a bust, he was doomed from the get go.

Leaf wasn't the #1 overall pick like JaMarsuck Russell was and Leaf didn't get paid as much as Russell did either. Russell's guaranteed money was the same amount as Leaf's 4 year contract!!!! At least Leaf tried to play (albeit horribly!!!) while Russell is just a fat lazy bastard just looking to get paid.

Well said. Russell just plain doesn't give a crap. Leaf tried and failed.

Russell talked trash on his own team (when he was actually the biggest problem), he lacks motivation, he doesn't keep in shape, and a laundry list of other things.

Thank god I only spent about $600 on his rookie cards and not much more like i usually do when one of my teams has a high draft pick. As a Raiders fan, i was never really happy with Russell being drafted #1. I was with the other 90% of Raiders fans who wanted Calvin Johnson instead. Not to mention drafting Russell ended the days of popular QB Andrew Walter, who never really got a fair shot and only played when the team was at its all time worst.

Im not sure if Jason Campbell is the long term answer, but i will say it sure is gonna be an exciting and optimistic training camp and start to the season this year with Campbell at QB and with Gallery and McFadden both healthy and all are other recent additions (McClain!!!)

Leaf didn't try either, he just expected to be good. Leaf probably applied himself less than Russell and his play was worse.

Russell's release made a generation of old white men very happy while probably setting back black quarterbacks 5 years.

This has been said over and over and over again: The best indicator for future success is the number of college starts a qb had.

Yeah, a four-year starter who won more games than anyone else in Division 1 history (until Colt McCoy broke the record last year) HAS to be better.

But seriously, I do agree with your point. Just thought this was an interesting counter-point.

Matt Cassel didn't start a single game while at USC and did pretty well in NE in the 2008 season.....but now he's on the Chiefs ::facepalm::

Yah, I think the study came out 2 or 3 years ago, and Cassell was part of it.

If I recall correctly, they basically decided that almost nothing correlated to future success. Didn't matter if you played for a top program, in a great conference, yards, or whatever.

The only thing they could say was a decent indicator -- like, beat the average bust rate -- was number of games started at QB in college.

The 10K Hour Rule at work?

Why would "old white men" be happy that Russell was released? Your "black" quarterback cliche doesn't work anymore. I would recommend not looking at everything through the prism of race or minority status.
