Jason Schmidt is finally back for the Dodgers, starting tonight against the Reds.
He missed all of 2008, and pitched in only 6 games in 2007.
Schmidt has been a monumental waste of money for the Dodgers. (He's making $15 million this year!)
Anyone think he'll be even half the player he was when he was with the Giants?

No, because he's not on steroids anymore. He won't even be 1/10th of the pitcher he was when he was on roids.

Roids make you a great pitcher? Since when?

When they allow you to throw 99 all day long they do. Not to mention the confidence boost they give you.

Yeah, seriously. I pitched in college, had 100's of friends playing division 1 baseball. I don't know one pitcher that was one juice. Because no one saw the benefit of it.....

Yes, I realize there are benefits. Please don't take that the wrong way. But Roids will not make a bad pitcher into a good one. If you can't figure that out, than you don't understand roids.

What it will do is allow pitchers to recover faster, and be at the top of their game more often. But it will NOT make someone who throws 89 mph all of sudden throw 95 mph. Again, if this is what you think, thank you don't understand steroids.

So you're saying that by allowing a pitcher to throw his hardest or much harder than normal because of the quicker recovery when on roids then that doesn't make him a better pitcher?

Again, you are saying steroids make pitchers throw much harder than normal. This is 100% false....

What's with the steroid talk?
He wasn't in the Mitchell Report and only appears on the phony list of 104 players.
Why is Schmidt suspected, other than his injury history?

No I'm not. Do pitchers throw their hardest every time they throw a fast ball? Or are they holding something back to be able to pitch more innings?

Because he was throwing 99 all night long with a 91 mph change up then all of the sudden it was 93-94 fasball. Then all of the injuries started.

Steroids making a pitcher throw harder? Clemens? Cough, cough. Seriously though, it does help in recovery which is most beneficial to the hard throwing relievers. Anecdotely, it does seem like there are fewer guys throwing 95+ coming out of the pen and many more 92-93 MPH guys.

And no, I don't think Schmidt was on the juice.

Did you ever think that he was battling injuries when he was down to 93-94??? He likely was battling his way through tendonitis among other things, but wanted to still pitch. Then the minor injuries became too much for him, and/or his shoulder and/or elbow gave out.

I had shoulder surgery after my freshman year in college. I was pitching at 80% for the entire season, but wanted to get through the season before surgery. I think you see this with many pitchers in the MLB. They fight and battle at 80% or 90% but eventually that bum arm won't let them compete any longer...

Schmidt has let up 3 runs and 4 hits in 3 innings.
But Micah Owings is doing worse, 6 runs and 7 hits in 3 innings.
Dodgers up 6-3 in only the 3rd.

Question for you. Can you develop and make the muscles that allow you to throw a baseball? If yes then you're saying that steroids can not help you develop those muscles and make them stronger?
