The Toronto Blue Jays made several roster moves following Thursday's game in Tampa, the most prominent being the call-up of top prospect Brett Lawrie and the demotion of Travis Snider to triple-A Las Vegas.

Toronto also recalled left-hander Luis Perez from Las Vegas and placed starter Carlos Villanueva on the 15-day disabled list with a right forearm strain.

Lawrie, a 21-year-old third baseman, has had a strong season in the Pacific Coast League with a .353 average along with 18 home runs and 61 RBI. The Langley, B.C. resident was acquired from Milwaukee last winter in a trade for Shaun Marcum.

Snider is being demoted for the second time this season. He began the season with Toronto but was sent down on April 29 after a slow start to the season. He played 49 games in Las Vegas and was recalled on July 3. He went 0-for-5 on Thursday against Tampa Bay and is hitting .225 for the season.

Villanueva gave up eight earned runs on nine hits in just 2 2/3 innings on Wednesday during a 9-1 loss to the Rays. He is 6-3 on the season with a 4.24 earned run average.

Perez has pitched in 24 games this season for the Blue Jays, with a record of 1-2 and a 3.57 ERA.
