Probably not first ballot, but I would say eventually down the line.

Agreed, although I believe that it is a travesty that Biggio will get in before him. Biggio was never half the player Bagwell was. Biggio just lasted longer.

Generally when I say 'lock', I mean a player who is a surefire first ballot, high percentage vote getter, and top tier HOF'er, like Griffey for example. Having said that, Bagwell is by no means a lock. If you think a player who most likely will get the nod down the road is a 'lock', then perhaps he is. Personally, I think his stats alone put him on a fence. Yet, I believe he gets in due to the persona he carried atop of the stats, eventually...

matfanofold is right. His stats alone put him borderline but it's the fact that he did EVERYTHING else he could do to be a good teammate. Whether you were the stud free agent or the 25th man on the roster Bagwell did whatever he could to make you feel like you belong. He still works for the organization's minor leaguers and is probably headed to a job in management at some point in the not-so-distant future.

His MVP year really sticks out...REALLY sticks out. His next closest SLG is almost .15 lower. I'm not saying he's Ken Caminiti, although the only year Ken received MVP votes was the year he won it. I'm on the fence leaning no for Bags, but take away 1994 and definitely not - especially for a first sacker.

Just sayin'.

Believe me, coming from an Astros fan, you are not the only person to think that he may have had a sampling of the juice.

Would it surprise me if he did? Not anymore.

Though, I do hope he didn't and his name NEVER pops up.

No where close to a lock. A high possibility but hes a borderline candidate.

no he had the help from juice.

I don't think this is a fair argument. There's oddities about every era of baseball. Everyone has to be judged on relative performance.

I'd say Bagwell is pretty close to the bottom of the HOF caliber players of the 90s-00s. He's borderline, but should get in.

It would be nice for Bags & Biggio to get in the same year but I doubt Bags will ever make it. He was more of a star than Biggio but Biggio hit the 3000 hit milestone while Bags fell short of 500 HR which isn't a lock these days. I picked up his autograph this weekend at Astros Fan Fest for $50. He was very nice to everyone in the crowd.

If he doesn't make it in, I really think his goatee should.

That chin covering is no doubt HOF worthy.

1st ballot HOF'er (& not even because it's a homer pick)...I think if the likes of Frank Thomas or Chipper Jones get in then Jeff Bagwell will also (& I'm guessing the "Big Hurt" & Chipper will be 1st ballot HOF'ers).
As for the "juice" comment/accusation (for the 90's- early 2000's player's it has gotten to the point of "who knows if they juiced?" on EVERY PLAYER from that era, if there is only speculation backing the accusation! Chipper?-Who Knows... Griffey Jr.? Who Knows... Big Hurt? Who Knows... Bagwell? Who Knows...etc, etc.). It's also gotten to the point here on the board's where it seems like the only reason to mention/accuse a player of juicing (when there is no factual evidence to back it up other than having power in the era of steroids) is to "troll" a thread.... ;) :D

The only scenario I can see where Bags doesn't get in is if essentially all power hitters from the 90's/00's are essentially blackballed by Hall voters. Bagwell was known as one of the smartest base runners in the game, and played pretty good defense to go along with his offensive numbers from what I recall. Keep in mind the majority of his career was player in the Astrodome. He may not get in on the first ballot, but I think he will get in sooner than later.
