Losing Campos I think was bigger than losing Pineda. Sure, Pineda was at least MLB ready, but the M's have the arms in the system (and weren't winning with or without Pineda), they had NOTHING in the way of hitters. I still have some faith in Montero, especially if he goes DH and can focus on hitting ONLY.

I'm very sorry to read that. Nothing much to do but hold your stash at this point. Hopefully he gets straightened out and gets moved to a larger market. Some guys, particularly sluggers, take a while to reach their full potential. Paul Konerko, Matt Kemp, Derrek Lee, and Josh Hamilton all come to mind. Hopefully Montero will get squared away, start hitting 30 bombs a year, and get moved to a larger market. I suppose the primary "lesson" here would be that diversification of investments is the safe path.

Picked Montero off waivers to replace Pierzynski when he went on the DL. Now AJ is back and I just picked him up to be my backup catcher and dropped Jesus. Full circle!

I remember a Sunday afternoon when Montero hit 2 HR (against the Orioles I think?), and his prices went nuts. I am pretty sure that everything I had listed ended up selling. My mistake was not having everything listed at that time. So instead of making a killing on everything, I made a killing on 2/3 of my stuff, and the other 1/3 I still have. So most likely I will still end up even, or ahead, on my Montero investment. Just wish I would have sold it all when he hit those 2 HR's.

Pineda to have a better career. imo... Yanks will get some revenge on the Buhner trade Id say.

When one of them suits back up for a big league club, we can re-evaluate - until then, I stay with the lose/lose classification.

Id say the Yankees won this in a huge way. Pineda will rebound and have a solid career. Montero is LaPorta/Maybin and will show flashes of brilliance every once in a great while....but not enough to have a good career.

When Montero played in Charleston he could absolutely hit! He was never much of a catcher, but I believe he will turn out to be a productive hitter at some point. Look at Jose Bautista, he was a late bloomer, he has turned things around in a big way.
Now, if J Smoak will start hitting, I would be real happy.

Age difference is significant in that comparison. LaPorta debuted at 24, Montero is still only 23 and has over a full season (albeit a disappointing one) under his belt. He hit .295/.330/.438 away from Safeco last year, so there's still some hope for a resurgence. Approach needs a ton of work. Getting out from behind the plate may help.
