yes, take things out of context, shows maturity. rice states that he does not think baggy uniforms.....set a good example for today's youth.

But what were the uniforms like in the 20's though 50's? Look at these bad influences from back in the day. They all look like gangsters. ::facepalm::

again, that is RICE'S opinion on dreadlocks and baggy uniforms, not mine. hell, i think players look better in the baggy uniforms, and if i HAD hair, i would probably try for dreads myself!

edited to add:

and i personally think rice is unworthy of being in the hall. in my opinion, he is one of the worst players to have ever been voted in.

i think rice is way off throwing jeter's name into the mix with the other players he mentioned, but i also respect that to be his opinion and do not plan to get all worked up and offended that he thinks that way.......unlike some of the users in this forum.

I don't get the whole "Jeter is overrated" thing. I really don't.

When it's all said and done, Derek Jeter will have more than 3,000 hits. He will have power numbers better than Alan Trammell, who was one of the better power-hitting shortstops of all-time. He will have a career batting average well over .300. He's made many, many All-Star teams. He's won at least four World Series titles. He's made the Playoffs all but one season, so far.

What else...hmmm...he's professional and classy. He speaks to the media. He keeps out of trouble. He is highly marketable and has a boatload of endorsements.

And how is he overrated?

Nobody ever accused him of being Cal Ripken Jr. or Ernie Banks.

He's quite frankly one of the top 10 shortstops ever to play the game.

Now, how is that overrated?

I think that many non-Yankees fans have issues with him, strictly out of jealousy. I mean, I distinctly remember a rabid Red Sox fan posting on these message boards, back when the Red Sox were high-up in the standings earlier this year, about how Nick Green was just fine as their shortstop.

Nick "Effin" Green?! Are you kidding me? You mean the same Nick Green who got cut by, of all teams - The Yankees?!

I bet that 95% of MLB teams would trade their shortstop for Jeter any day of the week.

:lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: ::facepalm::

What I don't get is how people think any good player in New York doesn't get his fair share of hype and more.I mean...I have said it literally 10,000 times and have probably said it with a post 10,000 words long but I am not sure it can be any clearer.Put Jeter in any other place besides Boston or New York and he will not receive even close to the attention he does.Is that really all that hard to understand.Nobody is saying he isn't a great player.Anyone who does is a fool. But for god's sake...the man plays in the ultimate city in the world.New Freaking York.It doesn't get any bigger than that.

We all know he plays for the Yankees, so what is the point of slamming it home that he does? He helped his team, the most popular team in history, win 4 World Series'. Of course he will be very popular, and rightfully so. You can't fault people for liking him.

I'm not.Not at all.But its starting to become borderline idiotic to believe he doesn't get a little more hype because of where he plays than he would if he played somewhere else.Imagine if Pujols played for the yankees...he'd be a lot more popular.Imagine if Jeter played for St. Louis...get my drift?

But you can say that about any player that plays on the Yankees or large market team (NYY, NYM, BOS, LAA, LAD).

Jeter - Overrated? Not really. Overhyped? Totally!

The two go hand in hand in my opinion. With more hype comes more people rating him higher than he really is capable of playing. Now to all of you that may not seem the case but trust me...if you take a step back with no agenda in mind its easy to see.

The funny part is I really like Jeter.I always have. But you cannot say anything at all without people taking it the wrong way.Not saying you think that Zach but just the majority of people.

My point is, everyone knows he is more popular because he plays for the Yankees. It simply doesn't matter. It is what it is.

Personally, it has no bearing on my life what someone thinks of Derek Jeter....especially Jim Rice. I think we have the same feelings on the comment.....

1. Jim Rice was not thinking clearly when he said this.
2. Jim Rice thinks very highly of Jim Rice.
3. Jim Rice and his comments do not affect the course of my life.

Well then ya'll need to start acting like you do.These posts people are putting out that always ask why people think he is overrated/overhyped are starting to seem like trolling more than anything.
