i never understood why people make such a big deal about the 56 game hit streak. its a statistical anomaly sons. this year i really hope don kelly or ryan raburn go 1 for 5 in 57 straight games and hit .200 and g3t sent back to toledo with their broke asses because sooner or later some thing like that will happen, we just need a bigger sample size nomsayin

Take away his 3 time MVP, both of his 2nd place MVP, and 5 more top 10 MVP years, I think you may be on to something!

Joe Dimaggio as 36 year old: .263 12 HR 71 RBI
Edgar Martinez as a 37 year old: .324, 37 HR, 145 RBI

Edgar > Joe D

Is he put on an enourmous pedestal becuase of the streak and the fact he was a Yankee? Yes. Sucks? WTF...

Someone else already rattled off his resume, but add to that the fact that he missed out on three "prime" years (ages 28-30) because of the war, who knows how many more awards, HRs, RBIs, etc... he would have had.

Do baseball fans a favor and edit your title.

OP is apparently trying to get his post count up. I hope you were really drunk when you convinced yourself of this nonsensical garbage.

Interesting stat. 361 career HR's, 369 career SO's. Wow!!!

yep, if i remember correctly, he never had a season where he had more than 21 strikeouts. i think i OP is a sad littleman who lives in mommy's basement jerking off to the victoria's secret catlogs he subscribes to.

While Jeremy is Jeremy, the entire "statistical anomaly" is absolutely true.

To me, it's like the celebration of the cycle. If a player hits for the cycle, they get more publicity and excitement than a player who hit 2 HR and 2 doubles.

Couldn't even make it to the Hall on his first try. Did bag Marilyn Monroe in her prime, so big ups for that. But no 500 homers, no 3000 hits. Not even 400/2500. At least he wasn't a compiler.

I have a horrible memory, and I'm too lazy to look it up, but I'm pretty sure that I've read that Ted Williams (who we all know hit .406 that year) actually had a higher batting average than DiMaggio during the 56 game hitting streak. How the heck did DiMaggio beat Williams out for MVP that year?

Besides the fact that he is arguably the greatest all around player of all time, along with Mays.

That would be an awfully long argument to make.
