Hope this isn't another Alfonso Soriano..but I doubt it will be. The next few years will tell everyone how well they did with the signing.

Sure there is an injury risk, as you can see by Mauers past, but when he has been healthy he's won batting titles and cracked the Top 5 in MVP consideration. But I'm with you, if he can keep up the production and hitting for high average over even the next 5-6 years, this will be a great deal imo.

I was also reading a couple weeks ago that there were talks of adding options for years 9 and 10. Guess we'll find out everything tonight at 6 pm CST

I wouldn't doubt it. I still believe that if Mauer has another great year and wasn't signed to the extension, that NY or Boston might have stepped in and offered close to 30 a year. If That happened, I could see Pujols getting >30
