Damn. Very bad news indeed. He is an awesome TTM signer and a hell of a guy. At least the Yankees do not have to face him this year! Get well soon Joe. :?
"The former All-Star will not immediately have surgery. Instead, he will rest and rehab, working to build up the elbow, over the next week or two. After that time period, Nathan will make a determination if he can pitch with the injury or will need an operation to repair it."
In the 2 fantasy league's where I need help at the closer spot I picked up all 3 of these guy's (I think Rauch is favored as of now, mainly due to his familiarity at the closer position):
KFAN, Twin Cities sports talk, reported this morning that Nathan has a significant tear of the UCL. They said Nathan will try "rest and rehab", but there is a strong possibility that he'll need TJ surgery. I'm guessing Rauch gets first crack at the closer job.
Not really the news I like to hear, but it may not be all bad.
I'd prefer it if Nathan just had the surgery now and give himself even more time to come back next year, rather then working through it and have a nagging injury all season.
I do like Rauch in the closer position, and would like to keep guerrier as a strong set up man. If Neshak is back to 100%, then it could easily be any of those three. I don't Liriano in that spot because whether he pitches good or bad, I see the Twins trying to get him in the rotation again, but sho knows.
Not the greatest news when pitching injuries are what plagued us last year in 09.
