I just do not think Hughes has the stuff to be a MLB starter. On paper it looks good, but aside from a few moments of quality, he just has not been able to produce at the MLB level, and I do not see this changing. Unless ofcourse they are satisfied with a 8-15, 5.00+ era type pitcher. Hughes belongs in a pen, or on a team that is desperate for pitching.
FWIW, Hughes' Avg Fastball velocity last year was 93.7 MPH, good for 16th in the majors among pitchers with 80+ IP. Ubaldo Jimenez (96.1mph) and Justin Verlander (95.6mph) top the list.
