I love it. The all star game is one game in the middle of a 162 game season. Why would you put your rivalry on hold for a BS exhibition game? Our society is becoming too PC. If I saw Timmy shaking hands with a Dodger I would be sick to my stomach. Votto earned my respect by showing his fire and loyalty to his team and dedication to the pennant race he is in now.

Since when is it so bad to not like your rival? He doesn't like the Cubs, plain and simple.

He responded truthfully to a question he was asked. All this I love you, you love me stuff in sports is getting a bit ridiculous, in my opinion. Give me 25 Votto's with his competitive spirit(which to me is obvious with his comments), and I will have a darn good team.

I never liked the Cubs, in fact, I loathe them bad. They are media darlings for the wrong reasons dubbing them the lovable losers when there are other far better underdog teams in baseball that HAVE WON a World Series. See Chicago White Sox and Philadelphia Phillies. Cheer for the both

It seems like they are saying:

"Poor us, we never win a World Series and we have an outdated stadium... pity us..."

I hope they never win another WS. Don't get me wrong, I love Wrigley Field (I like original ball-parks, or the old ones at least) but it seems like they arn't enjoying it and want the rest of us to suffer.

Who within the Cubs organization is asking for your pity or wants you to suffer? Please tell me that.

Just listen to the tone of voice they use on WGN. When I listen to a game it seems like they are trying to push across a point, like "We are the best, but yet, we suck, we are a small hometown team that needs more love than it has." It's ridiculous... their fans are horrendus, and they still come out of the locker room with halos on their head... and then say... Micheal Barrett actually shows the horns that those hats are hiding...

I have no reason to hate the Cubs, I just hate them.

What makes Cubs fans horendous? Because we are loyal? Because we support our team even when they suck? Because we have an awesome nerighborhood to party in, thus alot of booze gets consumed?

I will admit that there are quite a few people that attend Cubs games because it is an event. But I don't neccessarily consider them "true fans". This happens everywhere. Any game you go to has die hard fans, and has at least 30-40% of casual fans who are just attending a game from time to time.

Am I pissed at Cubs management? Am I annoyed by some of the casual fans? Do I think Jim Hendry Sucks? Do I get bothered by some of the 100 year crap? The truth is that all of these answers are yes. But they are my team. I am a die hard Cubs fan and a die hard baseball fan. Does that make all Cubs fan horrendous? That is silly.

When the Twins can sell out there stadium for 5 years straight, come talk to me about horrendous fans.

skrip

I am not saying anything about the selling out. We are the best fans in baseball. We respect who deserves it, and we knock who deserves it... We don't throw beer on an un-suspecting Shane Victorino, an innocent-bystander, but we throw trash at Chuck Knoblauch, a piece of trash himself. We arn't drunkard fans with 6 beers in hand. Only once have I been to a Twins game and seen someone so drunk that they were doing stupid stuff.

Hell, we even applauded Josh Hamilton and Mark Burhele... I doubt the Cubs would do that... Applaud a rival after a perfect game... Your team just punches out their rivals...

[youtube:13e4mqv5]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSw6MHvZoa0[/youtube:13e4mqv5]

Worst team on team conduct I have seen... Twins fans booin the word Detroit in that Journey song...

Hell, we even rooted for the White Sox, because they deserved our rootin's for...

[youtube:13e4mqv5]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lcy047BkRZs[/youtube:13e4mqv5]

Would the Cubs do that? I don't think so.

So Marlon Byrd makes a game winning play, a DB in the dugout can't congratulate him and this all leads to a discussion about how Cubs fans are horrible. Too Funny! I think you would be hard pressed to find any Cubs player or fan for that matter that actually believes in a Goat Curse.

This response has been a long time coming and I’d like to preface this by saying although I am a Cardinals fan this has nothing to do with it. I live in Chicago and I’m exposed to this “team” every single day… that being said.

Being a “loyal Cubs fan” and being an fool is a fine line. Let me address a few topics: first, being a loyal fan is one thing but backing a team that not only goes over 100 years without winning but repeatedly treats their fan base like dog **** is another. Cub’s management gives their fans the most disgusting stadium in all sports (before any purist goes nuts about baseball history I am a long time member of SABR and would rather watch and talk baseball from 100 years ago). This stadium is a hole in every conceivable manner. From seats that are made for children, to obstructed views, to no replay, to terrible food, to no parking, to the fact that the entire place smells like urine, it is an abomination. These are the facts and they are undeniable. About 8-10 years ago one of the local news channels ran a survey asking Cubs fans if they could win the World Series next year by giving up Wrigley Field for good would they do it. 85% said that they would not trade their house of pee for a new stadium even if it ensured a WS championship. Think about that for a moment.

Second, the surrounding area is a joke. The bars are there only because of the field not because of the area. The bars are crowded not because of the great tasting libations and atmosphere but because half of the “fans” that show up are not looking to watch a good baseball game or team, but because they want to get drunk.

Why do you think the Cubs routinely sell out games?? Do you think it is because they have this undeniably optimistic fan base? No. The truth is that thousands and thousands of people show up just to get loaded.

Back to management. If I’m not mistaken (and I may be here) the Cubs have the highest or one of the highest average ticket prices in MLB. Why? Because they can. They understand that if they sell out despite that fact their team is a joke and they never have to be accountable to the actual fans that give a crap because the fools keep buying tickets.

The Cubs are such a disgrace that they can’t even get their announcing done without controversy. They take the one guy, Steve Stone, that actually knew what he was talking about and get rid of him because he had the audacity to call them out on their crap; all of this while continually employing the single greatest joke in the history of game calling/commentary, otherwise known as Ron Santo.

Let’s review: terrible team, terrible front office, terrible stadium, terrible history, terrible future.

Now I realize there are some knowledgeable Cubs fans out there that do get frustrated and feel like crying over this organization. My advice to you would be to tell all of your fellow fans to stop buying tickets and demand more of your organization. Failure to buy merchandise and tickets is your only real way to fight back. Otherwise pick a new team, nobody would fault you or call you a name for giving up on a team that gave up on you before any of out grandfathers were born.

Marlon Byrd made a nice play to get David Ortiz out at second.

Brian McCann had a game winning play.

There's a difference.

Don't forget the Marlon Byrd was down 0-2 to Matt Thornton and battled back with an excellent at bat and ended up walking. And oh yeah, he was the hitter BEFORE Mccann hit. I heard multiple "experts" say that Byrd's at bat was the most important in the game. Just saying....

yes it was he walks which loads the bases and give McCann a chance to bat. If Byrd does not score from first on the double and the inning ends then it is only a 1 run ball game 2-1 instead of 3-1 with 3 innings left. So he scores and it takes some of the pressure off whom ever is pitching next, since you have a 2 run lead.

But this is not even the topic. It is about a guy just being himself and did what he seen fit to do no matter what play was made. He hates his rival and this dicussion has gone to why everyones hates the Cubs.

Yeah, Mike Shannon is a real treat to listen to also isn't he?
At least Santo had a successful baseball career and actually knows what he is talking about!

Seek immediate medical attention, the first minutes post stroke are the most crucial.

You absolutely cannot be serious with this statement. Santo was a very fine ball player but he couldn't find a coherent sentence with an Indian tracker and a road map. I swear to you just the other day Pat was doing a, “This date in baseball history” segment where he tells the audience about all the interesting things that happened on THAT DATE in baseball history. When he was done Ron said, “I remember that last one, what part of the season did that happen in?” Pat replied, “Ron, it’s a ‘that day in history’ meaning it was this day. Wow.

If they were experts, I would believe them, but since they are "experts", I must take what they say with a grain of salt.

You butt gets really hurt when someone talks about your beloved Cubbies, doesn't it?
