Johnny Damon, HOF ?

What do you think Johnny's chance of HOF are?

Needs more time but I think he's got a shot. He has 2,387 hits, so I say he gets to 3,000 if he plays just 4 more seasons. Given that alone, you can't write him off, unless you want him to be the first guy with 3,000 (aside from Rose) to not make it.

Jeter is a different case altogether. It is the leadership intangibles......if I see that nitwit go flying into the stands in the Sox-Yanks game back in 2003 one more time I will throw up.......

Jeter 5 years ago was better than Johnny Damon........I will admit, if Damon gets to 3000 hits then I reconsider...but that is the only thing that will get him in.......I just dont know if Damon will even play 4 more years let alone avg. 150+ hits a year.....


Still, nice pickup, and I dont think it is a card that you can argue does not fit into your collection...

I don't see it. He's put up excellent career numbers as an always good, never really great player who has done it for a long time. He's never finished higher than 13th in the MVP voting, (only had 4 seasons with any votes at all) and is only a 2-time All-Star. Even if he gets to 3000 hits I'd have a hard time putting him in, though I think that if he did, he would likely get voted in. IMO a solid player who does not deserve much HOF consideration.

Anybody that isn't willing to admit that Damon has a shot at the HOF is just naive or must really be a Damon-hater. He's by no means a lock right now but he could easily be considered within the next 3-4 years.

I am not niave nor a Damon hater....he is just playing in the wrong era....so many players that are heads and heels better than he is.........but you never know...he could find a way to play as long as guys like Wade Boggs and Julio Franco, etc. and he gets to 3000 then it is possible........until then...NO

Anyone who gets 3,000 without other issues surrounding them will get in. It still means something. Much more so than 500 HRs.

I am a Yankees fan so I am obviosuly biased and I still say no way. He has started in 1 all star game and made only 1 other. Even if he gets 3000 hits he shouldn't be in. I don't really care if he will be the first eligible non steroid user in the HOF with 3000 hits.

To me, the Hall of Fame is for the elite. If he gets to 3000, he will probably get in. However, I just don't consider someone with a .289 career AVG, .355 career OBP and only one 200-hit season as elite, especially when you don't have the power numbers to go with it.

Even if he gets 3,000 hits that won't change my opinion, that he is not a HOF. The HOF is for GREAT players, not accumulators. Thats what Damon would be if he got to 3,000 hits. I don't think anyone could say that he has been a great player by any stretch of the imagination. Good player, not great.

I haven't stated my opinion on whether he DESERVES to be in the HOF, I actually refuse to do that anymore with any player b/c the HOF is a joke now, IMO. So watered down.

But I can admit that Damon has a shot at making it, outside of my opinion of whether he deserves to go or not.
