It's probably because he plays for the white sox. Not exactly a team on the top of my list whose fans... errr prospectors, seem to overhype their team's top prospects here on FCB.
I don't think the team matters so much anymore. Look at current and past hype and prices of Springer, Buxton, Stanton, Gordon, Cespedes, Strasburg, Harper and the other small team prospects.
Most of the lack of extreme hype so far has to do with no Bowman Chrome yet and, mainly, because Abreu is 27 years old.

I'll be impressed about Abreu if he's more than average come august or sept. Teams are still looking for his weaknesses. I remember Puig last year - hot to start, was so-so by the end of the season when it was figured out what pitches would get him to swing and miss or to chase badly.

Today Abreu set the all-time rookie RBI record for April, and there are still three days left.
Abreu had four RBI today, giving him 31, to surpass Albert Pujols who had the previous RBI mark of 27 in 2001.

Now he has the rookie home run and RBI record.
He may be 27 years old, but 10 homers and 31 RBI in his first month is still incredible.

I think he may become the second player to win both rookie of month and player of month in his debut month (Puig 2013).

Anywhere Delta goes.
I sold one of his Donruss Rookies a couple of weeks ago. The high bidder never paid, $5 and change. I re-listed it and it is ending today, already at $8.00 with an hour or so to go.

I know he's much better than the previous ChiSox rookie HR king, but with those Sunday throwbacks, I couldn't help but think of Ron Kittle...

And I doubt I'm the only one!

I'm sure a lot of the non-hype is due to his batting average hovering around the Mendoza line the first 3 weeks of the season. People were wary that Abreu is another Adam Dunn or Mark Reynolds type player.

As well as the Sox have been hitting, Abreu has been stepping up to the plate with a lot of RBI opportunities. Granted, he has largely been coming through in said at-bats but the season is early. I hope Abreu keeps it up because they are my favorite AL team. As for comparing Dunn to Abreu:

Adam Dunn was 21 when he made his MLB debut in 2001.
Jose Abreu was 27 when he made his MLB debut last month.

Dunn career home runs: 445
Abreu career home runs: 10 ;)

I sold a Leaf National Pride Auto /25 a few months ago for $247 (pretty high all things considered). I accepted a $250 offer on a Leaf National Pride Auto 1/10 yesterday. Felt right and I honestly didn't want to be left holding the bag when Bowman hit this week.

Translation: Dunn would have benefited from AL pitching.

Ervin Santana, RA Dickey, Jake Peavy, Ryan Dempster, Matt Garza, and many more would argue NL pitching benefits from NL lineups.

Ervin's benefiting from being protected by a superior pitching lineup. His league-leading 1.00 w-l ratio is impressive. Some would say the best it could get for a pitcher.

Protection by a pitching lineup? What are you talking about?

other teams get tired of the depth of the braves starting rotation (Wood being a possible exception) that by the time they get to Ervin, they're tired of having to play the Braves. and he's not going against the other team's top pitchers usually...

The pitcher you go against means absolutely nothing, and the bottom of the rotation is the "end" of the rotation for a series no more often than any other spot in the rotation. They don't play five game series always ending with Santana. There is no such thing as pitching rotation protection.
