It's been selling for around $225ish. I don't really need the money, but if it's gonna sell for $75 in a month I might as well sell it now. I know he's a long term prospect and a few years away from the bigs, and I don't really want to wait three years to cash in.

Or would it be better to grade it and flip it? It's probably a 9.5/10

Sell it now.

Look at Jose Tabata & Fernando Martinez as examples from previous years that were the "hot young Latin American" teen ... now it's 5 years later and they are both still stud prospects, but their cards sell for fractions of what they did back then because it simply takes too long for them to make the bigs and make any kind of splash that could net you a profit. (I speak from experience as I still have over $3800 in Tabata 2006 Chrome stuff!!!).

SELL!

The thing I like about Iglesias compared to other young infielders is that scouts rave about his defense and there isn't much mention of his bat. Peter Gammons said Iglesias reminded him of Omar Vizquel. Most people think he ca be a gold glove shortstop and the attention he's getting is because of his glove. Now, he's in double a, he's only 20 and he's batting over .300. If he can cotinue to develop his approach at the plate he could really be a force. Anyways, I like him more than a lot of other guys because you don't have to go all in hopig his bat develops. He already has a talent that's going to give him a shot in the bigs, your not just banking on potential. If the bat keeps coming around its just a bonus to a game changing shortstop with the glove. Add that to the fact that he plays for the Red Sox and in 2 years no one will be I his way @ the shortstop position and look out.

Ask yourself how the money/value of the card would better suit you. Taking the $225 and putting it into something else with a quicker ROI, or locking $225 up for two years. You could flip that into $400-500 within two years, or wait and be able to sell the card for $300.

Hell, just flip a coin if you don't need the money :)

Not really a "prospector" so this is more a response as a Red Sox fan....

As someone noted, Iglesias is supposed to be a defensive whiz and the question was his hitting. It was though that they could be throwing him in over his head at AA - but that hasn't been the case. The fact that he is hitting well is very promising. From everything I've seen and read - everything at this point is positive.

The Sox went with Scutaro - on just a 2 year deal.....so at this point there's no reason to not think Iglesias is on a trek to have a shot at starting in 2012. I also think Scutaro has played well enough that the Sox will stick with that plan and not feel the need to go out and make a trade, sign a big name at SS in the meantime.

That being said if you can make a quick profit or need the money - selling is not a bad option. Just pointing out at this point there haven't really been any "red flags" and speaking as a Red Sox fan - he's come as advertised (if not better) and there is a lot of optomism.

Wouldn't that be all the more reason to hold? Any player can get hot for a week, hit 5 homeruns and make the list and never be heard from again. Iglesias could end up being a real standout if the bat stays hot. People will really warm up to him in Boston as well, considering the stinkers the Sox have had at short since 05.

I am very high on him for many of the reasons mentioned. I bought an auto plate of him for a little less then $125 DLVD. With that said I would probably sell if you could get $200-$225 and buy a few base autos of him in a few months when they go down (assuming they do) and pocket the rest. I always like to have a few lesser valued cards of a player that I sold a very high end card of. I am offering that advice because you do not seem all that sold on him, and that amonut of mnoey is tough to turn down.

If you decide to hold onto it I still feel you will make a nice profit once he makes it to the majors. I think he is going to a decent hitter, with an amazing glove with little extra base power that will fill the huge hole at SS the Red Sox have for years. Filling the hole at SS will make Red Sox collectors happy and as a result his cards will sell very nicely

Agreed. See: Jacoby Ellsbury. His base stealing ability was something new to the team, he contributed with the glove making dazzling plays immediately, and held his own at the plate while his cards took off. Had an awesome World Series and his cards have been way up ever since, yet his bat hasnt done much of anything in terms of power. Granted hes a leadoff guy and big power isnt expected, his glove, speed and likeableness with the ladies have made his cards valuable.

I am high on him in a long term way. But if i held this card right now i would probably sell it an buy it back in a month or so when the value went down. Just think you could sell it now for 225 an maybe even buy it back next month or after chrome or D&P comes out for 100-125.
