I was talking to the owner of a card store earlier today and he basically said what I had been feeling for a while... Jumbos are great for the quantity of hits, but not necessarily the higher end hits. Money MAY be better spent on 3 hobby boxes versus 2 jumbo boxes. But seeing all the retail hits on here, including the recent, and ridiculously great, blue harper auto redemption go me thinking about putting a little more $ into retail (although my luck with retail has been pretty lousy).

So, assuming you buy boxes and/or packs (not you guys that are singles only) which do you buy and why?

I had a choice of 2 jumbo boxes or a case of blasters and I went with the blasters.

OK. But, why? Just curious what was behind the decision, and did it work out for you?

~So I could tell everyone I busted a case of Bowman!~

At the time I thought it was a purple refractor per blaster like last year. And you get a lot more chrome cards for the money.

I just bought a blaster that had 1 Harper Chrome, 1 Harper Insert, A Gary Sanchez and Dustin Ackley Bowman's Best insert, an international chrome of some A's player and a few nice RCs. It seems like there is good value in those, though I know that blaster may be an aberration.

Anyone else? Why are so many people going retail? Other than the Bowman hobby/jumbo's may not be out in your area.

One more...does this vary by product for you?

Def. getting way more non-jumbo Bowman. Prices for regular hobby boxes aren't way out of whack like jumbos. Also, last year I got way more Harper USA-color versions too-(which was kinda SP'd, out of regular boxes than jumbos.) Sorry about the terrible sentence structure, seems like the Harper chromes are kinda Sp'd this year too(the guy yesterday got 7 from 2 cases of jumbo). But mostly based on the much cheaper price for regular hobby is the main reason for me.

At current prices, I wouldn't touch anything if you are intending to rip. I guess if I was forced to choose it would be retail at the original retail prices but I really don't see huge value there either.

See what Brent and Becca are getting for Harper Chrome lots from their 25 Jumbo Cases?! They also got a purple and blue auto, plus an orange ref. non auto. One of their 20 Harper chrome lots is at $600! Another lot is at $400!

Jumbo and Hobby always seem to explode. I think the retail boxes will sell consistently around $75 to $80 making it affordable for the average joe. If I get the chance Ill go with the retail, the Pineda is also a huge draw.

Retail - Has better auto checklist...sorta. Remote chance to get Harper Auto Redemption and Pineda's first auto. Between retail, value packs and blasters, the blasters have the craziest hits, although it can also be a massive disappointment. Fat packs are good because you know you'll get stuff, but mine ended up being lots of mediocre, but at least you are guaranteed 1 auto per box. Retail boxes are also 1 auto per box, but pretty mediocre for the money. Blaster is the biggest gamble, but also the biggest reward.

Hobby/Jumbo - From the looks of things, you'll have a better chance at getting more harpers in hobby vs jumbo. 8 boxes of jumbo vs 12 boxes of hobby. So if it's harper you are after, go with hobby. But if you are looking for hits, go with Jumbo. At 3 autos per box, that's 24 autos to the 12 autos in hobby. I've heard hobby will sometimes throw in an extra hit so you could factor that in.
