[quote="Captain Feathersword":2igx6j1v]I was thinking when I hear Mel Allen here, it would be nice if they replayed some of the old This Week in Baseball shows. MLB Network will succeed in the offseason where the NFL Network will struggle. Football is more popular now, but baseball has such a rich history. I would like it if they showed some of the old interviews of HOFers. That was great about the little mini-interview with Carl Hubbell during this game. I love this stuff.

Yea Football is all about the season.. and playoffs... after that it gets pushed aside until the draft. and again until the season begins.

Baseball has sooooo much to talk about during the offseason. They knew football would be done at the end of Dec.... so Jan 1st launch would be perfect. Thats usually when my minds starts to turn back towards baseball as well. And for sure once the playoffs are done for good. Soon pitchers and catchers will start to report.[/quote:2igx6j1v]

Now does anyone know if this is just a free preview or is MLB Network included in the "basic" services of a carrier?

I'm sure it depends on the carrier. I'm pretty sure on Comcast it's only on the premium sports package, but I don't know for sure, since I already had the package before it was launched.

On DirecTV, you don't need a package for NFL Network. Every DirecTV subscriber gets NFL Network.

On DIRECTV, it's in the CHOICE level and above (no Family level tier or DIRECTV limited if you've been a customer that long).

On cable, I've seen it's found mostly in the digital basic tier (not the basic analog tier) but of course check your system for specifics.

With the way digital basic tier cable rates are (at least in my area), DIRECTV is a slightly more affordable option for getting MLB Network.

I have DISH Network and I'm not going to pay $20/month more to switch providers for MLB Network. I'm hoping MLB will put it on the internet in my MLB.TV package at some point or I'll just do without. I have ESPN Baseball Tonight to fall back on so I'm not missing any MLB highlights and commentary if MLB Network won't be added to my MLB.TV package.
