Keep it goin man, your collection is like a snowball of baseball goodness.

It's pickin up steam!

Here are some nice rooks and autos I didn't see in your posts, just for variety's sake.

These are all numbered to just 10 copies:

Thanks, and thanks for sharing too! Always happy to see more rookies!!!
I have a lot of rookies not posted...I have that vladdy SP auto (bgs 9 or 9.5), along with his west palm, and also 2 psa 9 refractors.

I need to update the bucket....here's a couple more for you...

I can't even FATHOM how much they would be worth.

Which to me, actually makes these a nice investment, but in the very least, cool to look at.

I remember the "Cards that never were" section that used to be in the Beckett magazines

Damn Mudcats! You have the best rookie collection on the boards imo. Or maybe Jcmint (that I have seen anyway). Hofautos-yours is right up there, but you've only just started, so you're growing fast.

I think you shouldn't come in and look if it hurts you too much.
PS - I think i have won about 30 cards today, and posted about 5

But here's another just hoping you come back and look

great card brosef

dont listen to him, the thread rocks!

Don't tell him what to do. He can listen to him all he wants.

And to comment on Flight's post if we did that then the really nice collections would finally come out so maybe we should. I still say that the best collections around here have never been shown off as those owners don't have the "look at me" factor going for them. If you need proof I offer up one Wossa to prove my point.

The best collections on message boards are on net54...these are all jokes...wossa's could be a joke if only 1% of the prospects pass the test of longevity. The best collections are vintage IMHO.

All dollars aside, I would rather have Dimitri Young's collection over Wossa's if it was for keeps.

I personally post here because I enjoy sharing my cards.

Then again, for all i know WOSSA has a nice vintage collection too? For me, a shiny red offers little over a shiny blue

...give me something like this instead...

Thanks, but really not in any competition...i am just collecting the best graded rookies i can afford of players i think have potential of making hof some day...that's it, and I pretty much am done for everything i want for probably a couple more years, before I buy any other "newer guys"....well except for pujols...still waiting for his chrome to be a little more affordable.
I may seem like I have aspiritions to have a "great" collection, but I know that feat is never obtainable on my slim budget...just after potential hofers....

I don't know if this is sarcastic, but I actually like the idea. I think it is a lot better to just have one thread to keep track of all your stuff rather than making a new one each time. I think if each member did this we'd have a lot less clogged space over each individual mail day. I think it is actually kind of cool to go back and check out all of the pick-ups. Epically in this thread as its my kind of stuff with all the rookies and rc autos. Outside of that, those have to be the two sweetest cards ever, Cano is a complete stud and vastly underrated as far as cards go. I predict a huge spike by the end of the season.

I agree, I think Cano flies under the radaar. The xfractor only 130...i thought a deal at $99 although I am sure someone can tell me they sold for 75 last week (lol)....

Just for fun, a quote from Joe Orlando about Dimitri's collection:

“We are honored to display such a remarkable collection, owned by such an outstanding major league baseball player and collector. Someone like Dmitri Young can have a great impact on current and future collectors by sharing his amazing collection with the hobby, and he’s kind enough to loan it for display at this year’s show. Simply put, it’s a collection that surpasses all superlatives,” said Orlando.

Two-time All-Star player Young collected baseball cards in his youth, and began building this specific set eight years ago with the goal of assembling the finest collection in existence of Major League Baseball Hall of Fame rookie cards from 1948 to 1990. In recent years card collector and dealer Dave Bailey of Detroit has assisted Young in finding cards for the set.

“Growing up I was a big Mets and Braves fan,” Young told Sports Market Report.

“My heroes from the Braves were Dale Murphy and Bob Horner, and from the Mets it was ‘Dr. K’ (Dwight Gooden) and the ‘Straw Man’ (Darryl Strawberry). That’s whose cards I collected as a kid; Murphy, Horner, Gooden, Strawberry, Don Mattingly, Orel Hershiser and Bret Saberhagen. I was like any other kid. I’d get cards and play with them and trade with my friends.”

Highlights of the approximately 150 cards in the collection include: Roy Campanella 1949 Bowman PSA 10; Ernie Banks 1954 Topps PSA 10; Roberto Clemente 1955 Topps PSA 10; Brooks Robinson 1957 Topps PSA 10; Carl Yastrzemski 1960 Topps PSA 10; Lou Brock 1962 Topps PSA 10; Pete Rose 1963 Topps PSA 10; Tom Seaver 1967 Topps PSA 10; Johnny Bench 1968 Topps PSA 10; Reggie Jackson 1969 Topps PSA 10; and George Brett 1975 Topps PSA 10.

Dmitri says he loves his entire collection, but does admit there’s one card that’s his favorite.

“When I think of all the great cards in my collection, the one that stands out the most for me is my Reggie Jackson 1969 Topps that is graded PSA 10. I have a lot of cards of the greatest, most legendary Hall of Famers in the game, but that one is my personal favorite. Getting that card was huge for me,” he explained.

All our collections are jokes? (the nerve ::facepalm:: ) The best are on net54? Sure.... if you like vintage pre-war stuff, not that theres nothing wrong with that, but i (and most here) collect modern. I personally rather collect cards of current players or players i grew up watching, not players from before my grandparents were born.

I agree. I'd rather have my Buchholz Super than a 1920's Red Sox card. I like having cards of players I have watched, I do have some vintage as well, but I have met most of those players or been told about those players by family members. Some other collectors may have some insane vintage card, but Wossa has something like a Josh Reddick Super. I'd pick the Reddick out of the two, I've met him, I will see him play more someday, and there is just one.

That's why I say IMHO...
I collect all, modern and vintage...to me you aren't collecting unless you collect the history as well. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I respect yours. I understand that the majority only collect modern, and I have no problems with that, to each their own. I am just commenting on the remark about "the best collections". To each person, their collection is the best, given their budget....else they change it. When I said all these collections are jokes, I am including my own, and just said so "in comparison" to what is BEST imho.

Again, I respect your opinon...our opinons just differ. I would rather wait to see if bucholz lasts 5 years, or if i had to have one, take a $100 card of his and the difference somewhere else...for me there is little difference between red and blue. I don't get excited about the color, although i do like refractors. I would rather have someone that means something to the sport like a jackie robinson rookie. In 10 years, lets see what bucholz meant to the sport, and lets see what Jackie means to the sport. Again, I respect your opinon...after all I used to think like that.

We're often talking about simple potential versus realized potential on these boards.

To this end its important to really understand whether a card is desired because of potential or because it represents accomplishment. Like many I like the best, so I prefer accomplishment over potential. To me the best means established players who have already played on baseball's highest level. I'm not interested in anything that represents less than baseball's highest level or anything not associated with it.

So do people collect potential? Or do they collect accomplishment? I suppose some do both for different reasons. I do think people are more inclined to try to sell the unknown or the failed. To me its just too much work, too much money - and definitely not enough fun - to try to figure out which players will eventually realize their full potential. I'm also not looking to make a buck on my favorite hobby, so I don't sell.

But I think we can all agree that in order to be a real hobbyist both vintage and modern should be appreciated for what they represent today.
