Yeah, I hate to lose Giles, but the Phillies took this trade. Appel could still make it as a starter or the Phillies could transform him into a closer to replace Giles.

Could be the 1st trade with 2 guys named Arauz in it. :p

Looooooosiana!
Velasquez was the big pickup in this. I really don't understand why anyone is excited by Appel, other than being a #1 pick.

He is a great guy with a beautiful throwing motion, but he is not fooling a ton of batters. If Luhnow allowed him to be thrown in, be wary. We put so many rookie pitchers in this year but didn't give Appel a chance.

All that said, I could be wrong. I really like Appel and I hope he turns it around.

They were thinking he was too inconsistent. Hopefully he will do well for the Phillies . I just think Luhnow did not want to be constantly reminded that Houston took Appel instead of Kris Bryant in the draft. We needed a clearly defined winter goal of a flamethrower closer instead of Gregerson who throws low 90s. Then Kimbrell came off the board and then Chapman had the embarrassing domestic issue and the old Yankees want to be bowled over with prospects for Miller and are waiting too long waiting on the sidelines to do something
