I had no clue that Griffey tried to kill himself.....I have always been a griffey fan, I must have had my head buried in the sand.

"In January 1988, Griffey, at the age of 17, attempted to commit suicide by swallowing 227 aspirin pills but wound up in intensive care in Providence Hospital in Mount Airy, Ohio. Griffey being the #1 overall pick in baseball's amateur draft, the son of a great baseball player and everything that comes with being a professional athlete proved to be too much for Griffey. He stated, "It seemed like everyone was yelling at me in baseball, then I came home and everyone was yelling at me there," Griffey recalled. "I got depressed. I got angry. I didn't want to live."

I never knew that either. That's a bigger shocker to me than Agassi saying he hated tennis and did meth.

well, I know it is NOT the most credible source in the world, but it is on his wikipedia page. Which has a TON of information by the way.

Wasn't that widely covered by news programs? I vividly remember something like this occurring.

I wasn't alive in 88. I just remember this being talked about a lot when I started following baseball.

I actually just found that out myself recently. I think I saw it from a link posted here.

227 aspirin pills= very dead, very very very dead
your body wouldnt know what to do with that amount of drug everything would go out of whack including that sorta important thing we call a heart

He'd have been on dialysis if he took that much and there was any real time for digestion.

even if it were 5 grains x 227 pills = around 2.5 ounces (73.78 grams of aspirin) would be tough to counteract unless you had the charcoal ready and had a hemodialysis port ready to go.

I have read about this in the past. As stated before, thank goodness he didn't succeed at that particular feat!

Didn't know this....Outside of the OP citing pressure, wonder what made him want to do it. I feel pressure is a pretty ****** excuse to end it all.
