The CEO of Upper Deck counterfeiting Yugioh gaming cards was the death blow for Upper Deck. It's the smoking gun that shows you cannot trust their products.
Flopps buying their way into the exclusive license was the death blow for UD in Baseball.

People realize they still OWN the hockey market, right?

Upper Deck was the death blow to Upper Deck. Not Topps, not losing licenses, not anyone else...just UD.

Sure, UD's hockey products are top tier, but the stability of UD's finances control that future.

As for Topps signing Griffey...it should create some nice buzz...but do nothing to further the product or hobby. Nothing says "stuck in the past" like resurrecting the #1 hobby stud from 10 years ago. Sure, he's still well-liked, collected, etc...but I don't see the "wow factor" like I did with Koufax, etc.

He already has 1200+ autos, what's a couple hundred or thousand more? I'm sure he has some more free time now to sign.

Koufax, Aaron, Mays, et al have already lost their luster because of stickers and sub-par products.

But who wouldn't want a Griffey Jr./Aaron/Mays/Koufax/Strasburg/Bryce Harper/Ryan Howard/David Wright octo-booklet auto/patch super-canary rainbow prismatifractor?

I always wanted Junior in some of the retro products. Old Turkey Red or the new Gypsy would look good.

JUST NO STICKERS!

2012 Topps Heritage Griffey/Mays/Aaron triple-on card auto!!!

Would be nice, but the odds on Topps going on-card for anything multi-auto? SLIM at best.

Allen & Ginter Griffey Auto

Wouldn't be enough room for his sweet sig on those framed minis ;) Kidding aside...I am very eager to see both the excellent new cards of his as well as the not so great looking.

I'm excitted about this, if he is in heritage it might be the difference in me buying a couple of boxes and doing the set or not. I'm also pretty sure if the auto's are done nicely and are on card I'll buy a couple off ebay.

Nice to see a whine fest here when all Topps did was add another good player to it's roster. Let the products come out with him on them and then judge them. Heritage and A&G autos with griffey will be on card and be very desirable no matter what anyone says.

Interesting to note that junior has 1181 Upper Deck baseball autos according to Beckett... and 71% are stickers or cuts.

Im not sure why you all think there are going to be a ton of sticker autos, Griffey has all the time in the world
to sign now.

Its funny all the talk about a Griffey heritage card, heck topps hasn't even put him in the base set for a long time.

and the only problem with a Mays/Griffey dual signed card is that Mays charges too much.

They didn't sign him to not use him. Once they got Koufax and Aaron signed up they put them in their flagship products right away so I don't see them holding back Griffy autos from Heritage because he doesn't fit with the "theme" enough.

Topps has never used a recent retired player in their autograph set for heritage, I don't see them starting now, plus
they don't need him to sell that product. He will be in plenty of crap products.

I wouldn't mind seeing Topps Buy Backs with autos for 1989 Bowman, 1989 Topps Traded, 1990 Topps & 1993 Finest

Koufax, Aaron, Dawson, Seaver, Cepeda, and many other retired players have all kinds of time to sign,
yet they had 100s of topps sticker autos littered throughout a bunch of different products this year.

He may have a lot of time, but he probably values it a ton, and it's cheaper to just have stickers signed.
