Kershaw Red BGS 10 is IN!!!!!

Well, it's in and I could not be more pleased. It turned out to be a bad scan, as the card is exactly the measure of any other card that I have tested it against. Here is an updated scan...

Not really..This was the first card that I have have purchased in almost 2 months. I knew I would buy it if it ever came up at auction regardless of my collecting status. I doubt that I buy anything else, but I couldnt pass it up with my bday here!

Believing the seller is a known trimmer, combined with the fact that the card looks very skinny (notice how the borders are thicker on the top and bottom than the sides), I was too worried to bid on it and know others thinking the same.

That being said, I hope it isn't, and then I think you got a steal.

Congrats on the great card. I hope the card hasn't been altered but all you can ask for is the BGS grade and authentication. I don't think I will ever be able to justify spending $1500 on a card, unless i become a multi millionaire, and even then i don't think i could pull the trigger. Congrats again.

Nice pick-up. You're lucky as I had a higher snipe set but pulled it after I got the Lambo Red the night before and unfortunately felt that the card was trimmed. It's an amazing card nonetheless and if he's as good as advertised it'll be a cornerstone of your collection. I'll have to get my raw copy graded now and see if I can match it.

Nice pick-up. You're lucky as I had a higher snipe set but pulled it after I got the Lambo Red the night before and unfortunately felt that the card was trimmed. It's an amazing card nonetheless and if he's as good as advertised it'll be a cornerstone of your collection. I'll have to get my raw copy graded now and see if I can match it.

Thanks Greg. Did you get the Lambo from the same seller? I went through 3 months seller history of his and didnt see one sale involving a graded card, so he didnt seem like a trimmer to me. I tried to put the card in photoshop and count pixels, but its tough with scans and Im not great at that in the first place. If altered cards are being graded, what protection do buyers have?

They definitely look different, but scans are so difficult to judge. Hopefully it will be here before I leave for Hawaii on Wednesday (I doubt it will be), but I will definitely hold judgment until then.

Holy Crap, that is some major Eye Candy! Honestly, if its graded by BGS I wouldn't worry too much about if its trimmed or what not. All that matters is you have a /5 rookie auto of one of the best young pitchers and its graded a 10 by BGS.

If altered cards are being graded, what protection do buyers have?

You seem more hobby savvy to not know that trimmed cards have been passing through BGS & PSA for years. Beckett is ridiculous with it's window for card measurements (cards are one size, you shouldn't be grading anything less as normal).

They definitely look different, but scans are so difficult to judge. Hopefully it will be here before I leave for Hawaii on Wednesday (I doubt it will be), but I will definitely hold judgment until then.

And, no offense, but most people in your spot ever fail to issue an un-bias opinion (especially when serious coin is involved). As i've said, I hope for the best and will be looking forward to seeing a better scan.

I fully understand that BGS/PSA grade altered cards every day, but I dont think that makes the practice acceptable. As far as offering an unbiased opinion on the legitimacy of this card, I will take the highest quality/biggest scan that I can possibly get and will do everything in my power to compare multiple cards to this one when I get it in. Although the $$ is not a huge issue, I will definitely ensure this card is legit or I will seek legal recourse.

I didn't get the Lambo from the same seller and got a raw one so hopefully it's in good shape. The Kershaw you got is amazing either way as it's a red and he's such a top prospect. I went through this with Flight for awhile and even though I decided not to go for it I wouldn't have been upset if I'd changed my mind. One part of me says stay away because it might be altered then another part says who cares as it's still an ultra rare card of a huge prospect. It's also got a grade so no matter what I or anyone else says you can't take that 10 away. It's a shame we all have to question these cards and that some trimmed ones get through the grading process but the bottom line is if you're happy with the card who cares.
