I know he's a better player than people realize, but really?

$12 million per year? No "expert" I've seen so far can ever try to describe this one other than just shaking their heads.

That's like paying $3K+ for a NT Jeremy Lin auto rookie. Oh wait...

Hard to explain. Two parts that I can see.

1. Brooklyn is going all in. Brook Lopez is not a great rebounder, but Humphries is. They needed someone to pair with Lopez, and the two seem like complimentary pieces.
2. It could have something to do with the cap rules that you need to be a MENSA member to understand. Since they were resigning their own player they may have gotten less of a cap hit or it allowed them to spend money to fill a hole that would not have worked by signing someone outside their team.

Yes, they save something like 25% in Cap space by re-signing their own guy, but still awful IMO...

9/year for a consistent double double and a block per game isn't bad, especially for a team that's going all in with the signings they've made.

Maybe they tried to offer him a 73 day Contract and he was so Insulted they felt obligated to over-pay him to make up for it...

Bigs are expensive. The local 6ers actually gave Kwame Brown a contract!

Guys like Kwame getting signed is exactly why Humphries is worth it. Also, we all know how teams lover expiring contracts, so for a two year deal the 2nd year might be nice trade bait for a team looking to clear cap space.

Prokhorov doesn't care about the money and it's a short term deal. The $24 million doesn't matter as much as the years.

an injury prone Carlos Boozer is getting 15 mill a year

varejo is getting almost 10 mill a year

brendan hayward is getting about 9 mill a year

mehmet okur is getting paid 11 mill a year

kwame brown got paid 7 million last year to sit on the bench.

So how is $12 mill a year for 2 years a bad contract for someone who gives you a double double every night?

Come on guys...nba contracts are ridiculous, but a player of Humphries caliber, its a good signing for the Nets

On the other hand, the Gerald Wallace signing of 4years/40 mill is awful. Wallace is breaking down and just doesnt fit on the Nets

this kind of money always gets thrown around when the free agent market is thin.. nothing left for big men out there unless you make a blockbuster trade so these are the options they had and it worked out heavily in Humprhies favor.
