for a box of crackers and some expired cheese.

If they don't land Dwight Howard.... this trade is going to look worse.

As a Mavericks fan, I love this move.

Kidd - Beaubois
Terry - Fernandez - Dominique Jones - Andy Rautins
Brewer - Marion
Dirk - Odom - Brandan Wright
Haywood - Mahinmi - Cardinal

Not to mention, they are chasing after Vince Carter and Samuel Dalembert. Add those two to the above roster and the Mavs will have a pretty sweet rotation.

Looks like the Mavs will still be a top 3 team in the west if everything falls together.

The NBA is going to be 8 super teams and the rest NBDL and WNBA squads.

If the teams get the players they want.... what are we left with...

Miami Heat
Chicago Bulls
New York Knicks
Brooklyn Nets
Boston Celtics ( 1 more year )
Los Angeles Lakers
Dallas Mavericks

Who else out west? Clippers? Spurs? anyone?

Oklahoma will have Durant and Westbrok plus a decent supporting cast. They will be a tough team.

I also think Phili has a nice young solid team and could be pretty good in the next few years if players improve.

Hawks are alway a solid team but not a championship contender

Defintely the Clippers if they get Paul. He said he would opt in to his 2 year extension with them and they submitted the trade proposal to the leauge.

Clippers, Thunder, Grizzlies. If Utah can move one of their forwards (most likely Millsap) for a decent SG, they could be in the mix in the west.

The league will be VERY top heavy this year and terrible teams will probably just tank, what with the stacked draft class next year.

Also, the Nets are ONLY contenders if they get Dwight. If they do, and the Lakers miss out, I think people will see the worst Lakers club since the 90's this season. Losing Odom for nothing, not going to get Paul and end up without Howard? It's going to be Kobe, Bynum, Gasol and, uh, crap. Metta World Peace, Matt Barnes, Derek Fisher, et al, are not going to get it done. Not even adding Billups (after he clears) will enhance the team.

looks like the Clippers have now pulled out of the trade as they feel they are giving up too much

I will doubt Kobe. He had a better team this past summer and got swept by the Mavericks. With two backtobacktoback's during the season and many other back to back's, the Lakers most likely will not stay healthy the entire season.

Also: seems like Billups is headed to LA....just to the Clippers. Passing to Griffin, DeAndre and Gordon is going to be too tough for him to pass up methinks. Plus, Mavs added Vince Carter and Delonte West. Talk about a deep, talented bench. Cubes making a run at a ring and leaving opportunity for plenty of cap space next year. I love that guy.

This is why leagues shouldn't own teams. Reports are saying that when Stern denies it for best interest of the team reasons fans think that means the players aren't enough. What that really means is the league wants to sell the team and can get more if Paul is still on the team.

I think the 14.2 million he's owed is going to be tougher to pass up than whoever he is playing with.

It's turning into MLB.
A whole bunch of Kansas City Royals and Pittsburgh Pirates type teams that have no realistic shot of winning, half-empty stadiums, and then even if they do draft an Elite talent they get him for a few years before their forced to trade them to a big market just to recoup something and begin the process over again.

The thing that may actually make the NBA worse - imo it's the sport where the best team does win the majority of the time. At least in MLB, if you get a small-window of being competitive you could get hot and ride that to the World Series. A team like the Pacers have built a solid team, they should be competitive and could be a playoff team the next couple years, but is there any chance a team like that goes on a run and knocks off teams like the Knicks, Bulls and Heat in consecutive 7 game series?

Yep, the league should have let the Hornets fold. Their good players then would have been free agents and chose where they wanted to go. Unless the Lakers pull off a trade for Howard they are going to be the 5th or 6 best team in the west. Letting Lamar go to Dallas was a huge mistake, especially since the draft pick they got in return is a protected draft pick. Well there goes this whole season, maybe next year.
