So if the game is on the line, two outs, bases loaded...you'd take Murray over Berkman? Statistically, that is a bad decision.

If I were starting a team tomorrow and had to chose between the 2 as a RC player, yes I would take Murray. His career is in another league...

That's wasn't the question at all. If you get one at bat, who do you choose? The answer to that question reveals the better switch hitter.

The answer is there, just not the one you are fishing for. I prefer the totality of ones career over a simple, single, and usually insignificant instance. And without seeing the 'crunch' numbers, I would still pick Murray. He was a fierce competitor, devastating switch hitter, and a heck of a glove, who produced one of the finest MLB careers of anyone let alone switch hitters. I'm not discounting Beckman, he was very good but I will take Murray every time.

Least we forget Murray dominated during a different era, playing the bulk of his time before the juiced ball. I shutter to think just how awesome he would have been playing in todays game.

Thank you, Therion. Someone gets it. It's not a debate about career totals. Statistically you would win more games with a team full of Berkman's over a team full of Murray's. I'm not taking anything away from Murray, I'm just using the stats. The total hits and HR's don't mean much because obviously Murray played in a lot more games than Berkman, so if you use slash stats and 162 game averages Berkman is better in almost any category except for strikeout rate.

...but if you want to use totals we can debate on how much better Sammy Sosa is than Lou Gehrig or how much better Johnny Damon is over Jimmie Foxx. I'd rather just stick to the original topic, and we can acknowledge the great career that Lance had.
