Do you guys know if there are any large card shows in the Mid-West (Omaha, Kansas City, Des Moines, St. Louis)? I'm talking 100 tables or more and NOT located inside a mall. We'd like to set up at one with a lot of collector foot traffic. One that people will travel from states away to attend.

I saw one in Beckett that is in Kansas City in the Independence Center Mall that was 60 tables. I know that mall is pretty big, but I'm wondering about the number of dealers and how many buyers would show up (compared to an actual card show in a convention center, gynasium, etc).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

There is a show twice a year that is close to 100 tables in St. Louis at the Machinists Hall. I think the website my be st. louis sports collectors / dave jackson is the owner. There is a show in the spring and in the fall.

That and watch for Chicago shows.

Unfortunately that's about it. Shows are sparse... much less good ones :(

There is one at the Machinists Hall Feb. 19th-21st. There is another show at Machinists in October. The other 11 shows are at Two Hearts Banquet Center. So the shows at Machinists are the big ones? There isn't any info yet about the Machinists one yet so that's why I'm asking you.

Let me know what you think of the show. Would it be worth the trip from Nebraska? (keep in mind I'm going to sell, not to buy).

Thanks tyweb!

Any idea when the next big Chicago show is? (I think they are the Sun Times shows, correct?)

I went to one of the shows at Machinist's Hall once. About a year ago.

Really solid show. Got a lot of sweet stuff. Pretty big too.

St. Louis show is usually pretty decent. I used to set up there and did quite well with the people walking around selling. There are a couple of guys who walk the show with some pretty high-end stuff. There is a lady who buys up all of the high-end Sandberg stuff (auto's, patches, etc.) and another guy who buys a bunch of high-end vintage boxing. Here is Dave's site:

Sun-Times shows are definitely much larger. The shows are in March, July, and November. The March show is the 19-21. Here is the link to that site:

Thanks Rob.

Is there anything decent in Des Moines?

There is a monthly show in Urbandale at the Legion hall but it is rather small (20-30 tables). Sometimes the malls have show but they aren't much better. The best one I've been to in the Des Moines area is the one they have with the I-Cubs fan fest. I haven't seen anything advertised this year so I'm not sure if they are doing it but it usually in Jan or Feb.

des moines shows are pretty weak. i set up at the legion show every month, but i only do that so my two boys (6 and 9) can get a little taste of collecting. most buyers there cringe if you have anything for over $20, but there is some pretty decent stuff from some of the sellers.

there are also a couple of people that walk in with some nice stuff for trade/sale. depending on what you have, there are also a couple of folks who have "bought out" tables. there are even a couple of dealers from nebraska who set up, so they at least think it's worth it. personally, i wouldn't drive that far for it.

the mall shows absolutely suck and would not be worth the 2+ hour drive.

Do you think it would be worth the 8 hour drive to set up at the Machinist show in St. Louis?

that show is much bigger, and much better than any des moines show. i think it's about that long of a drive from des moines to there, and i made that trip both times a year for probably 5-6 years. i haven't gone to the last 3 shows there though (buddy i went with sold out all of his stuff).

Next machinists Hall show supposed to be good. Lots of guys signing. Pete Vuckovich, who is supposedly a tough auto to get is signing as well as Whitey Herzog, Lou Brock, Bob Gibson, Roy Sievers,Leon Durham, Dan Driessen, and about 12 more guys. Three Day show so its probably worth a try.
