Anyway, on FCB and FB we were lead to believe they would be BINs.

On facebook, and in the Thread here, we commented underneath that we would probably move to auction as numerous collectors pointed out at that hoarding would shut out most collectors if we offered these cards BIN all 25 at once...

BG - OK. As I said above, I actually would have done it this way anyway - it was just an expectation thing.

But, I do have a question for clarification...you said there are 20+ per player, and that this is not a one and done. For the guy I am watching, there is only one listed. Are these going to trickle out over time (weeks, months, etc.), or is this a near term sale or all of the cards?

Only asking b/c I have an IP auto oppty with him and want to gauge how high to go on the early one(s).

1 EACH LAST NIGHT, TONIGHT AND TOMORROW...

Then, we will look at sales and determine if remainder should be sold auction or Buy it now... guys that do not sell or bring $1-2.50 will probably have the remainder put up BIN.... guys with substantial interest will probably keep being auctioned.. BG

Regardless, we will announce on our facebook page when BIN's will be listed on bulk names...

No offense but some of the posts here make me ::facepalm::

I'm definitely a player collector. I'm sure I'd be annoyed if a hoarder bought them all the instant that they were listed on a BIN.

I think the idea and intention is good, as is the auction format to prevent hoarders.
One thing concerns me; since it says "player edition" on them, future sellers can claim the card was actually owned by the player, when the specific card was not.
An unsuspecting buyer would think he bought a special card that the player owned.
I realize future sales cannot be controlled, but this will definitely be a problem down the line, especially when the fan finds out later that he was duped by a lying or uninformed seller.

Agreed, I don't understand the entitlement. Beyond that you probably have a better chance of winning one now than if they were all put up as BIN's and one person could hit them all.

Maybe it's just me (and, yeah, I know I am going to get the requisite "yeah, it's just you" reply), but I am not a fan AT ALL with card manufacturers getting involved in the secondary market with cards that they actually manufacturer - which is what auctioning these off on eBay is.

It has the potential for abuse: "Hey, look at all these beautiful 1/1s we just printed, now available on eBay." However, I think in this case they are just making something that normally wouldn't be available to the public available. If I collected any of those players, I'd love to have one. Plus I think the amount of money we're talking about here is minuscule when compared with the overall release.

What's to stop it from escalating though. Right now it's a a couple dozen cards that Leaf produced, didn't pack out, and instead auctioned them off on eBay. What about the next attempt at it? "Here is a parallel set of XYZ brand that we normally release through our standard distribution process, but this time we are going to throw everything up on eBay." Before you know it, a card manufacturer could be fully involed in the secondary market.

I don't have a dog in the hunt or anything. I rarely collect new product. I am just a big fan of this hobby and want to see everyone given a fair chance at cards.

I'm sure the internet hissy fit that is FCB will keep them in line.

Really there's nothing to prevent it, except I think they can make more money by focusing their people on exactly what they are doing. Make cards at a certain low price and sell them in bulk to the market for a higher price. I'm guessing if they pulled the cool 1/1 cards to sell on eBay, the profit from those would not offset the loss in pack sales because the chance at massive hits would be gone. They have a nicely profitable business. Don't mess with that too much.
