Re: Razor Is No More, Razor is now Leaf!

BG and Razor realized the importance of brand recognition.

It was pointed out early on, but Razor was sure they could make a name for themselves--and they did, and now they're Leaf.

This move is brilliant. The artist-formerly-known-as-Razor will be welcomed to the hobby.

Only the geniuses of Razor could announce at their booth that Leaf is now back, but that Leaf is not a part of Razor, even though the head of Razor is the head of Leaf.

Thank god they aren't a public company. They'd be eviscerated.

There was a contractor in my neighborhood that had a real bad reputation for shoddy work. People would hire him, he would do lousy work, then when they went to look for him... Gone...
He would keep changing the name of the company so no one would ever put him and the bad company name together...

If you're trying to connect this with Razor, wouldn't your argument work better if they changed their name to something new? Leaf is a name that is going to make them MORE recognizable, not less.

All this says is "we couldn't build our own brand, and now our name is so toxic that we need to try to buy credibility by acquiring the name of another company."

What's next: "Be on the look out for TCMA Poker Stars, a subdivision of Leaf and property of Razor Entertainment"?

new tricks for an old dog? I don't think so. Big deal, leaf is razor, razor is mustard, mustard is Topps, Topps is satan, satan is chris carlin, chris carlin is all in cards, all in cards is gilmore, gilmore is wossa, wossa is robin williams, robin williams is patch adams, patch adams is Matt Laporta aka God, etc. etc. etc.

A new name don't make it anymore shiny. you can't polish a turd.

Not always. If my name were Charles Manson and I changed my name to Jesus Christ before you knew my birth name was Charles Manson, my sins would have been washed away with the name change.

That's what this is, brand recognition, to reach out to the people who previously didn't recognize Razor.

Not picking on you, but rather just usung your quote as an example...

So far, this same exact thing (perhaps not word for word) has been said, what... 5 times in this thread already? I'm going to go out on a limb here and say we are probablly going to see 10+ pages, and perhaps 50 posts saying the same exact thing, over and over, and over...

Can we all agree with this(more or less) now so it does not need to be repeated for 10 pages?

I'll keep it short and sweet --- this move is not nearly as groundbreaking as Brian thinks it is.

Sorry.

Can he make Leaf Limited? What about Leaf Century(remember Panini made it but didn't distribute it? It had Ruth and Gehrig and Cobb stuff in it, I remember seeing actual cards in the sell sheet.)

Hypothetical...

what if every Razor supporter who ever supported Razor drops BG's products because of this move, but countless scores of '90s collectors who've been out of the hobby see "Leaf" and buy it up...I mean who doesn't watch Spike TV?

Is the move a good one in this case?

Meaning getting rid of the disgruntled former supporters and starting a new customer base with visions of grandeur in their respective eyes.

From what's been shown, it seems like he's more worried about putting an established brand name on Razor products (MMA, Pop Century, etc.).

Haven't heard one word about re-introducing ANYTHING Leaf yet.

If that were to happen, it might actually seem like a good move, and I'd probably buy some ( I liked Leaf!). Otherwise, like has been said, he's just trying to buy a reputation with the name.

If you're buying the Leaf brand name, use it for Leaf products, don't just waste the name to re-brand yours.
