What? No one bought this for the redemption? "A card too big for the industry to handle" wasn't a huge selling point for both Leaf releases? Sure, nobody technically knew 100%, but enough hints were dropped so that everyone pretty much knew.
BG needs some new people speaking on his behalf on FCB, because the stuff that comes out of some of their mouths either doesn't make sense, are lies or make him look worse.
That said, I do like the card and have no problem with it. Wouldn't mind similar things done in the future for big college names.

Don't care who got what and where.. The cuts don't match the art. The art is for the most part beautiful.. nice, crisp, and clean. The cuts stand out. It looks like "tri star signia art".

seems to me like the lawsuit itself is the way to compensate john john american football for his signatures.
i can see why leaf would avoid a license.. who needs one when you can just do whatever the XXXX you want? not to mention why be associated with the big leagues when your act is being cast as bush league? i guess 2 years and the chance at 2 cease letters is best for the hobby.

The Hawkins Field and many other fields in that part of East Texas have been reliably productive for over 50 years, after Manziel first discovered them. Even discounting the family's other successful ventures (ex.: uncle owns high end clothing stores & supplied Johnny with suits, etc, for his awards circuit), the residuals from the oil and gas alone should be massive. Johnny's grandfather and great-aunt are known to be quite indulgent towards the grandkids. By the way, Johnny was driving a Beamer around campus even before last year's spring training, when it looked like he wouldn't even see the field as a quarterback. When he said "I've always been doing these things", he means it. He's always been able to go to sports events with some pretty sweet seats. Just like some of those kids in the photos of him who are also sitting courtside, though no one knows or cares who they are, nor do they wonder how they got those tickets.
Edit to add: For what it's worth, his grandfather also owns a concert arena in Tyler. The rapper 2 Chainz has a show there this month. Manziel has been criticized for posting pictures of himself with two other rap artists ("Why is he getting to hang out with big names?") I imagine JM will go there that weekend, and will probably meet the guy and post a picture. I doubt it will be reported that he's actually at his family's place at the time. Just a heads up for the complainers.

Johnny Football may not be getting paid directly for this stunt but it keeps his name in the press and adds to his persona. That's gonna pay him back well once he ditches the NCAA provided his performance doesn't reach mediocre status. Further, any athlete or celebrity should have enough brain power to understand a signature has some value in the open market. Maybe the guy likes to sign. I know I'd sign as much as I could if I was in a similar position enjoying my piece of fame and making people happy. Any Joe Blow can buy a handful of Maziel autographs, make some cut signature cards, then choose to sell them. I've certainly seen some nice creativity on this forum with cut sigs. If Johnny don't like it then he shouldn't be signing. This type of card isn't even unprecedented. Just last year Upper Deck put a Team USA high school football set together.

I think it may be lack of opportunity more than anything else for Mccarron but anyway it just seems like sour grapes about Manziel.

Why would I have sour grapes? I'm an Alabama fan of course, but even with a loss the Manziel the season worked out just fine.

I'm not going to comment on the proposed lawsuit or legality of including Johnny Manziel as a public figure. What I find as shocking is that people are paying $400+ for a cut autograph of a kid who MAY go on to be a backup quarterback in the NFL. A kid who may dream of a career as successful as former Heisman winners, Andre Ware, GIno Torretta, Charlie Ward, and Ty Detmer.
A kid who, if he is drafted, will have thousands and thousands of licensed certified autographs before it's all said and done.
Who, other than A&M fans who have to have this card RIGHT NOW with no investment foresight, is buying this card now?

After reading the ESPN article, it looks like this card created a way for NCAA players to get legally paid.

Hypothetical future situation:
Manufacturer: Sign these 1000 autographs for $100 ea.
PLayer: I can't get paid for autographs.
Manufacturer: That's okay. Sign these "cut" autographs. Then sue me. Then we'll settle. For $100k.
Player: Okay.
My question is, what are Manzeil's damages if he does sue? Did he profit under the Johnny Football t-shirt deal? He's not allowed under NCAA law to profit by his autograph . . . someone with more NCAA knowledge than I would have to chime in.
