The Los Angeles Times is reporting that UFC President Dana White will announce the signing of Fedor Emelianenko this Friday. Shortly after the report was made posted, the UFC announced a media conference call with White scheduled for this Friday afternoon.

According to the report, an unidentified source stated that the negotiations between Fedor and the UFC have been "very civil". The source went on to state that officials are apparently discussing details on the announcement of the deal, although the UFC is declining to comment on Friday's announcement.

The signing of Fedor by the UFC has been talked about for years, with the Russian heavyweight coming close to signing with the organization in the summer of 2007. Negotations failed after Fedor's manager, Vadim Finkelstein, demanded that the UFC work with his Russian M-1 Global promotion and permit Emelianenko to compete in combat sambo tournaments. However, speculation renewed during the UFC 100 post-fight press conference earlier this month, when White said that Fedor would eventually be joining the organization.

“Eventually Fedor is going to be here,” White noted. “I want Fedor. I want him to come of the UFC."

White also said this past weekend that the Russian heavyweight would fight UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar in his first fight in the organization, if they were to come to terms on a deal.

"He'll fight for the title first," White stated. "What does he need, a tune-up fight or something? ... To argue where this guy sits in the heavyweight division, we can argue that all day."

Meanwhile, Fedor Emelianenko will address the public with a press conference on Wednesday, where he is expected to address his future plans. It's unlikely that Fedor would announce a deal with the UFC if the UFC is planning to make their own announcement on Friday. Stay tuned to MMAScoops.com for more on this story.

...it should be noted that M-1 is dismissing these claims.

They just finished the conference call and M-1/Vadim Finklestein is still insistant on co promotion.
Dont think the UFC is going to go for that and if they dont, and M1 doesnt give that up, Fedor will not fight in the UFC.

It could be a surprise they are saving for Friday.

I am hoping, but at this point, it doesnt look probable he will sign with them.

I think that Dana would co-promote with M-1 to get Fedor in the UFC for 4 or 5 fights for sure. I see no reason why he wouldn`t. To my knowledge there is no real tension or bad blood between the two, and M-1 really isn`t a huge threat to the UFC. I think Dana feels the heat to get Emelianenko Fedor in the UFC now, and short of licking Fedors salty sack, I would think he would be willing to do quite a bit to seal the deal.

Do I believe Dana would do it? Yes.

Do I believe the Fertittas will do it? That is left to be seen...

All In all, I see him in UFC, just not sure when.

This is the time to get the deal done, so I am hoping it does!

I want it to happen, I am excited at the possibility of it happening, but I will believe it when I see it.

With no other viable MMA promotion out there I think Fedor really has no choice but to sign with the UFC. If he goes back to M1 it will just be for the freak show/circus type fights. AS I see it right now M1 is a struggling promotion that wants to jump on the back of the UFC. I think Dana will allow some sort of cross promotion just to land Fedor. Brock vs. Fedor will be the biggest PPV ever.

I think UFC is hoping and waiting for M1 to fold, then they can land Fedor that way.
