I am looking to pick up a few graded RC's (mainly Bowman Chrome) of a few guys that have some upside but aren't too expensive. Someone along the lines of Matt Dominguez, Moustakas, Laporta, Villalona, Felix Hernandez, Hunter Pence, David Price, Tommy Hanson. Who are you guys loading up on? Not looking for Stanton, Montero, Heyward, etc.... the big guys are easier to spot :)

Thanks

I realize I'm not mentioning any underdogs, I was just trying to point out I am not looking for who you think is the BEST. And yes, I realize these are some big name guys. And skrip, any idea what a Dominguez 07 BCDP refractor BGS 9.5 would go for? I can get what for $14, is it worth it? Thanks for the help guys, I am new to the world of prospecting.

instead of "less well known" i'm guessing you just mean guys who aren't the current flavor of the month. This is a great way to prospect, in that you find a guy who still has the tools the made everyone drool like former message board 'god' Matt Laporta, but people have already forgotten about him as the moved on to Heyward/Stanton/Montero as you've said.

If it were me? I would read baseball america's top 100 list from previous years, find the guys in the top 25 or so that fell off the list (Moustakas), or got promoted but haven't gotten playing time (Laporta) and buy em up for prices 1/3 of what they were at their peak.

Just make sure you're not buying into someone who might be injured (Bumgarner) and thus is deservedly selling at lower prices.

Good luck,

Thanks mudcatsfan, and yes you hit the nail on the head. Just threw the title on, but yes I meant guys who aren't the topic of 3-5 threads a day (cough cough Heyward). And the tip about buying someone not injured is a good one, that would suck to buy into a prospect then find out he had season-ending arm surgery. Quick question on Laporta: he used to be huge. Is his major drop in prices just due to him not playing? I was surprised to see he was one of the weakest selling autos in the 09 Ultimate RC set.

He was called up last year and not used, this is DEATH to prospects, and perfect opportunity for prospectors. He also dealt with some injury issues. He appears to be straight now, and had a nice spring. He's just the kind of guy who could take off and everyone wonder where he came from.

Carlos Quentin was the last guy like this for me.

2007 he was blocked, partially hurt, he got traded to Chicago, got full time starting job and almost won the MVP.

Ugh, until he was hurt, he had the MVP WON! Like in his damn pocket. Every single metric was like "Quentin, you're a BEAST"
