DISCLAIMER: I am not looking for pity or anything. I know blasters suck. I am posting this for other people who may buy blasters for whatever reason.

I decided to give Upper Deck one, last, chance. I know that UD has not done anything in retail over the last....well forever and I had sworn off UD completely. Busted 4 boxes of this stuff at $20 a pop. I was just going to buy one but I wanted to give them a real fighting chance. Even topps manages to get some kind of auto about 1 in 4 blaster boxes.

Two stacks of base cards.

No autos.

4 numbered cards. One in each box. The 4 'hits' were:

Frank Gore Draft History 108/125
Anthony Heygood (Purdue) 73/75
LeSean McCoy (Pitt) 34/50
Ian Johnson (Boise St.) 4/10

So, once again, word to the wise:

When buying hobby, buy DLP/Panini, when buying retail buy Topps, when you want a swift kick in the junk, buy Upper Deck.

I've always done great with Topps when I go retail. A friend once pulled a Barry Sanders jersey with the blue stripe paint from the sleeve, with a Braylon Edwards auto out of one blaster. I pulled a Troy Williamson auto from a blaster of the same stuff that night.

I also got 3 hits once from a blaster of Topps DPP. I also do decent on regular retail packs, assuming they're fresh before pack searchers.

If you're unhappy with that Gore, I can take it off your hands ;)

Oh wow, I wasn't expecting that for real. Thanks a lot. Perhaps I could look and see if I have any Seahawks rookies or inserts you could use. I'll PM you in a second.

Yeah, stick to Topps/Bowman for your blaster cravings. UD doesn't put anything from I've seen and heard in their blasters. I pulled an AJ Hawk auto rc from Bowman and a few decent jersey cards from Topps/Bowman products over the past few years.

What do you want for the LeSean McCoy???

I've had my best luck with Topps, although the last blaster of Upper Deck I tried was okay (2008 UD). One guaranteed relic and tons of rookie cards.

My best pull ever came from a Topps blaster.

Still have no idea why people buy retail that doesnt have the word chrome attached to it. If you are looking for hits, retail is the LAST place you should look. Take your 20 bucks and go buy a DVD instead, hell buy a PS2 or XBOX greatest hits game. Or have patience and buy online if there is no shop by you, it usually only takes about 3 days to get to you.

I know it was luck but my greatest card came from retail - which I later sold for $550.

In general retail is good for a "quick fix". You might not get something great, but if you do it just adds to the experience.

Tell me again why you would even try? 20 bucks spent on a blaster can usually buy you a mid range auto, not to mention all the 2 dollar junk you get out of the blasters times 10! Cmon, retail is such a joke. Just because you hit astronomical odds doesnt mean it is a good idea. Not trying to be confrontational, but buying non-chrome retail for hits is the worst idea in the world.

For the thrill of busting wax?

I understand that it's not....smart....to go ape-crazy buying retail if you're looking for a big hit, but in moderation in can be a fun alternative to a more expensive hobby box.

I tried because I wanted to see. On my top 5 best pulls of my life, 2 were from retail. I wasn't really after it for the 'hits' as most people call it. The box says 1 insert or numbered card per pack. I figured I'd probably get 3-4 numbered cards per box. I don't buy cards hoping to get the Super Duper 1/1 Octuple autograph of whomever. I buy them looking for a Max Unger numbered card or if I'm really lucky, an Aaron Curry parallel because its nice to pull a PC card. Getting an auto is just a nice bonus if it happens. I made this post only to alert people that this particular $20 blaster really, really sucks.

I'm the kind of guy who buys a $105 box of Bowman Draft Jumbo and thinks it was a fantastic box because I got a Devin Moore letter auto (hawks), a max unger white parallel/199, and a John Carlson unnumbered Red parallel.

I have to ask, why pay $20, or even $105, when the cards you want can be had for twenty cents? If there is one thing I have learned over the last few years, its better to just buy the cards you want then to waste your money on busting. Even if you have the money, in the long run, busting is never a good idea. Retail busting is the worst idea, even if its just a once in a while thing.

Most of the time, for $20 you can buy packs of hobby, have the same shot at the insert cards, get a better chance at autos, and you get more cards per pack. At that rate, even the set collectors or insert collectors should be going hobby more than retail. I mean, if you are after more base cards, and the hits arent a big deal, then why not get the most for your money: HOBBY.

Companies, according to the big wigs, are forced to take stuff OUT of the retail to help pay for packaging, anti theft and counter searching stuff. Why pay for that? Order your stuff online if there is not a shop near you and stop giving your money away to big retail corporations who use cards as shelf fillers.

I agree completely. I usually buy hobby only. I had the itch to try some 09 stuff and that itch came up at 9pm when I was at Target  I don't know why, but winning a card on ebay is nice, but pulling a PC card is ten time sweeter.

I'm just weird.

To put it in prospective: The joy I get when I land a 1/1 on ebay is equal to the joy of pulling a Max Unger Bowman Draft White numbered parallel.

I was only posting this to inform those people that do frequent retail stores of my experience with Upper Deck.
