ok... here are the players.....

1> Matthew Wieters
2> Roger Maris
3> Lou Brock
4> Torii Hunter
5> Michael Young

On a different thread, someone said Wieters was basically done as a prospect. Another poster said most good players do it the first two years.
Do the above stats mean anything?
Is it too soon to tell? Is it too early to say Wieters is no longer a prospect/phenom/you pick the phrase?

I've been having this same exact discussion with my brother recently. He doesn't collect cards, but just watches baseball. He gives up on guys too quickly in my opinion. Like many people here do as well.

If you go back in history and look at almost any great from the past their first two years are generally mediocre at best. Especially pitchers. By going back and looking at most HOF guys, I've found as far as hitters go, that the third year "seems" to be on average the year they get it all together and put up huge numbers.

I think the last few years where guys have come into the league on fire has distorted people's perspective a bit. The last few years are an anomaly in the history of baseball.

Now that I see the players I think my rankings were OK. I hate that 1 was Wieters cause I have not given up on him and would love to see him do well. Maybe his cards will drop some and I can grab them up!

I think the issue with Weiters was the crazy high expectations he had after tearing up college and the minor leagues. He's still real young, and he's got a ton of potential, but I think the hype around him is gone.

This. Can anybody live up to the expectation of being Mauer with Power? All the scouts worried about him was his glove and from what I've read, he's been better than expected behind the plate. He might not live up to the hype but he's not bad now and has the chance to be very good in the future.

MAUER POWER -

The magical occurrence of “home run power” that comes out of nowhere and is gone by the next season, after the contract has been signed.
